notes

This CD is the band's fifth recording, and it contains several new original songs by band members, along with some gems garnered from the past. While having the greatest respect for musicians and bands that laid the foundation for old time music, the Wolfe Bros. also believe it's important to add to the living old time tradition-as the bands of the 1920-1940's did when they made the first generation of recordings.

During the last few years, the band has had the pleasure of playing at such events as: Merlefest, the Wayne Henderson Festival, the Carter Family Fold Festival, the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival, and at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia.

Bluegrass Unlimited featured an article about the Wolfe Bros. in their June 2004 issue, and they appeared in 2006 on the PBS television series, Song of the Mountains, which is airing on many PBS stations across the country. They were among the bands chosen to represent the Crooked Road Music Trail in March 2007 at the Bristol, Tennessee NASCAR Race.

Band members include Dale Morris, Jerry Correll, Casey Hash, and Donna Correll.

  • ..new, unique and refreshing approach to old time music
    author: Joe Ross

The Wolfe Bros. have an enthralling repertoire of arranged material with a new approach that infuses new life into old time music. They are clearly succeeding in their goal to add to the "living" old time tradition. Bands like them are keeping the music vibrant and vital. "Old Virginia Hills" is somewhat a paradox. Tunes emanating from their strings aren't really that old after all. Rather, this album continues to reinforce how these "brothers" are taking a new, unique and refreshing approach to old time music. OLD VIRGINIA HILLS contains some of the best new old time music I've heard since the last Polecat Creek release. I can't think of enough good things to say-every cut is stellar...Kevin O'Connell~Mountain Echoes Radio www.mountainechoesradio.com

The Wolfe Brothers' sound is the fine wine of old time music. They combine the mountain tradition with a certain sophistication that's all their own, and their recordings are a must for any collection of the music. Bill Smith~Executive Director~Crooked Road Music Trail
