notes
Moriah-Melin and John Whoolilurie a.k.a. mojow, are the founders of The Vibration Army. Their goal is to connect the worlds of art, music, culture and social activism through interactive outreach performance. They appear at universities, churches, festivals, clubs, rallies and marches with their innovative and original duo.
Their first album "Undivided" was composed, produced and performed by Mojow. Through the use of studio technology, this duo was able to create full horn sections, choirs, world music ensembles, slamming funk-rock bands, and gentle folk arrangements leading the listener through a multi-dimensional journey where an introspective nei flute improvisation is the final destination.
Their stage show consists of them layering vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards, accordion, drums, percussion, saxophones, and other instruments through electronic looping pedals, creating a full band sound. The styles they play include: latin, hip-hop, jazz, rock, world, and funk. In addition to their creative musical approach, they add life to their show through costume and dance. All material is original, and nothing is pre-recorded.
Their portable roaming performance is a mostly accapella version of their stage show. John's looping pedals are strapped to his waist while trailing a red wagon carrying instruments and a battery powered amplifier. He is a six-foot-eight-red-headed-beat-boxing-music-making-machine. His wife Moriah-Melin not only sings, dances, and plays instruments, but also brings life to the show through theatrical expression, costume design, and audience interaction.
John has been playing music since the age of six, and has performed internationally with a variety of groups. Moriah-Melin was a practicing midwife when they met, and were married eleven days later. She left her practice to pursue music and their vision of the Vibration Army.
