Roger "Bass Man" Kurt
"The Lowest Singing Voice in the Hawaiian Islands, possibly the World!"
Roger Kurt, nicknamed "Bass Man" was born in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Hawaii in 1966 where he attended Damien Memorial High School then Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1975 with a degree in Psychology.
Roger's musical training began with piano lessons from a nun in San Diego. Later, he began playin the coronet and the trumpet. He received twelve years of private lessons on the trumpet through the Cody School of Music in San Diego. During that period, he performed in a 300 piece concert orchestra and also played in a dance/swing/jazz ensemble. After moving to Hawaii, Roger taught himself to play both classical and electric guitar. He played in various rock groups as a guitarist for many years.
More recently, Roger began performing as a singer. He has received private vocal lessons from various instructors. As a singer, Roger has performed with the Sounds of Aloha Barbershop Chorus, the Singers of Hawaii, the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, the fifties group the Love Notes and most recently with the acappella group Shakapella, which he co-founded. As a group singer, Roger has performed on two recorded CD's. This is his first solo CD.
Roger has been blessed with a unique and distinctive voice which is rarely heard! His voice is unusually low and resonant. He sings in the register of a Contra Bass or a "Russian" Bass, which is an octave lower than a traditional bass singer and two octaves lower than a baritone singer!
Having grown tired of hearing songs constantly sung by high pitched male singers, Roger began his "Mission" of furthering the cause of the forgotten bass singers of the world! In light of this "Mission," Roger recently produced his own solo CD where the bass singer gets all of the leads!
All of the recording and engineering on the CD was done by Roger and he played all of the instruments you hear. He is also responsible for most of the musical arrangments on the CD. The first song on the CD, "Mr. Bass Man's Back!" is an original song written by Roger.
The CD is entitled Mister Bass Man Swings Low!
and is produced by R. Kurt Productions (p)(c) 2003

author: nicholas paynehere goes....I am glad I bought the cd...he has a really great bass voice....I have been a full time pro musician and arranger..still play and teach jazz part time so I feel my comments are relevant.I must agree sadly with another reveiwer about cheap drum machines and poor arrangements too.....I am certain I could sort out the arrangements and with a bit of vocal coaching too he could really be something..what a voice..so if roger wants to email me ..feel free....great super-bass voice...really is..just needs some coaching to sort out more credible performances..I hope this view is seen as constructive not destructive..its honest and accurate.

I like the c.d. overall BUT it is a low budget recording. ie: cheap drum machines and fading sound on most tracks. I'm glad I didn't pay full price! p.s. CD Baby is still the coolest c.d. site on the web!
