The Hungry Mind Review is a well-established act from Wilmington, North Carolina, whose third album, "Redemption", is now available online and regionally in stores.
The band, led by singer/songwriter Stephan Bayley, is a three-piece guitar/bass/drums combo with Holt Evans on bass and Gordon Cummings on drums and backup vocals.
Their sound is a culmination of sixties and seventies British folk-rock and the suppressed power pop movement of the 1970's--with subtle undertones of the moodiness of Jeff and Tim Buckley, John Cale and Tindersticks.
HMR's third album comes with great expectations after the rave reviews of the band's second album, "J'Abandonne" (1996).

fine songwriting, catchy songs, depth
author: Steve StricklandHard to imagine this type of music coming from north carolina; sounds British. Mood a little like Big Star's Third/Sister Lovers. Good songs. Good Harmonies. Fine Balance between bright pop with jangly guitars and the gloom of acoustic tracks like running. would be interesting to hear other material by this band.
