Allegheny Mountain Radio
Music and Poetry from the Allegheny Mountains of the two Virginias
Allegheny Mountain Radio (AMR) is a nonprofit community-based radio network of four broadcast stations located on the border of the two Virginias. The network includes daily AM programming from six am to six pm and FM broadcasting from six am to ten pm. The network is currently developing a fifth station (Radio Hillsboro) in order to provide FM coverage for southern Pocahontas Co. and Greenbrier Co. The frequencies, broadcast letters, location, and area of coverage for the stations are as follows: · 1370 AM, WVMR, Frost WV, Pocahontas Co. · 89.7 FM, WVLS, Monterey VA, Highland Co. and east to Staunton, Waynesboro, and Harrisonburg areas · 107.1 FM, WCHG, Hot Springs VA, Bath Co., west to Covington, and east to Lexington/Buena Vista · 103.5 FM, W278AL, Durbin WV, Bartow, Frank, and Durbin AMR’s programming is eclectic ranging from country, bluegrass, and gospel to rock, classical, and jazz. Due to this musical diversity the network draws from a cross spectrum of listeners unlike most public radio or commercial radio stations that target very limited market segments. These listeners support a true community organization in an era when most broadcast media are fragmented and not focused on local issues and material.
