notes

Zumf (pronounced zoompf) was born in the tiny little town of Brookings, SD on a cold winter's night in January. The 17th of January to be exact. He quickly began terrorizing the parental units by climbing up drapes, swinging around and yelling out loud Tarzan- like barbaric 'yawps'. Needing an outlet for his unsatiable appetite for creativity, he soon resorted to counting the ants on the ceiling. Realizing by the 7th grade that there were no ants on the ceiling, he decided to take up the Euphonium, a large metal instrument that could make a lot of noise. Deciding this was much cooler than the other instruments available, he continued this until he left for the even colder tundra of Moorhead, MN where he went to college for two years. There he learned how to do much ado about nothing and other various things, including memorizing the tantalizingly long lines from Gilbert and Sullivan. He soon moved back to Brookings to finish up his long tedium of college sporadics, and had many strange adventures involving ferns and meccas. Since finishing college, he has been living wherever he has been living, and generally solving unsolvable mysteries, such as what really exists in the little black box.

"Zumf's music is a reflection on the various states of mind that befall our young hero. Since he didn't want to resort to the usual drastic measures of having a record company tell him what his music should be and sound like, he decided to go it alone. The result is a unique sonic mix of both ambient sounds and popular rhythms that are at once soothing and driving, foreboding and secretive. Also, the fascination with science fiction and fantasy shows through on his first album available to the public, 'Dreams of the Dragon'. The Latin text between the works gives a hint into the mind of the slumbering Dragon as he dreams grand visions of love, humility, and, of course, destruction. We can certainly look forward to more grand visions from this new artist, as he continues to broaden his new musical ideas."

These will take you to another level in relaxation and excitment. You could actually envision the action and adventure in the life of a mystical dragon. This CD could very well be the background music in the next Lord of the Rings movie. You have to have this CD...Just get it!!!

  • Great Album, I liked it a lot.

This is a really cool album, I came across it by accident one day while surfing the net in my dormroom. I have only listened to the few free tracks left by the artist, but I think everyone should at least take a listen. I am going to check for it on half dot com before buying it here, but I think it would be a good one to get for x-mas, if anyone cathces my drift (that means you jess and suzy) I am not sure who this zufm person is, but I bet he has other albums too... Listen to it! You'll like it.

  • The New Zumf album redefines modern techno
    author: Kosher

Dreams of the Dragon, the new album by ZUMF, takes listeners on a magical journey through mystic forests, rolling green hills with drifting fog, and a techno northern lights show set to drive the listener into an odd trance-like state of pumped-up tranquility, all the while setting the mood for deeper relaxation and meditation. Reflective of its Faerie Tale album cover, Dreams of the Dragon escapes in an adventure akin to both an auditory hallucination and a spiritual retreat into the wilderness of the imagination. Multi-layered harmonies, electronic piano, driving percussion, and foreign dialogue tracks can all be found here presented in the dreamlike setting which engulfs the listener in a blanket of musical genius. A MUST HEAR for any serious lover of new age techno.
