notes
Rufus Williams A.K.A Young City Ru hails from Hartford CT. A city that is known to the world as the Insurance Capital. To outsiders looking in, one might view Hartford as a wealthy town but the truth be told is that Hartford is a poverty stricken town with a lot of musical talent but no musical influences. It is a city where artist get passed by as tour busses go back and forth to bigger markets such as Boston and New York. It is a city that Rufus Williams A.K.A Young City Ru has ascended to the throne with such priorities as getting a deal for himself and to put his city and state on the map where they belong.
Rufus began his musical career at church, as do so many other artists. At the tender age of 7 he began singing in the church choir and never looked back. As time went on Rufus never let go of his passion and by the time he was in middle school he had formed a group called "Cappuccino" which had a lot of success on the local circuit. Cappuccino remained together throughout high school and shortly after graduation they decided to move to Los Angeles California to pursue their dreams. Not reaching the goal of getting signed to a major deal the group disbanded and "Young City Ru" was born. Rufus ended up with the name Young City Ru because he has always hung around an older crowd leaving him as the youngest and always repped his city of Hartford to the fullest and Ru is of course short for Rufus thus leaving him with the name of "Young City Ru" which is a perfect description of him especially since Ru means soul.
Rufus has a wide range of musical influences such as Sam Cooke, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight and Carl Thomas. These artists have had the biggest impact on Ru's career. A quote to always remember from Ru is that "Music is my life and I will never stop using the gift I have to sing, write and compose music." This is My Life & Music.

Combining hip hop and R&B should be easy enough, but often the resulting songs get mired in a predicament: They're either too club for the street or too street for the club. Tried and true, this ultra modern collection of tracks doesn't stumble, combining the bass heavy beats of the more radio-friendly hip hop joints while smoothing it out with thick verses and hooks that tinge on a neo-soul feel. Evening out the R&B presence, a few guest rappers step up to the mic and flow, leaving out the posturing and keeping the vibe as steady as possible. That's not to say this record is soft: While there are a good amount of slow jams for the ladies, there is a variance in the approach that keeps the mood from going stale. It's this same method that channels throughout, combining key elements and utilizing the strongest points, all while maintaining a strong focus that won't let the listener turn away.
