Music for aspiring young violinists: A selection of rarely-heard works for violin composed by Edward Mollenhauer, Edward Elgar, Charles Danda, Dmitri Shostakovich, Friedrich Seitz, and Vincent Persichetti, with piano accompaniment performed by John Jensen.
The repertoire was specially selected to encourage children to take up the instrument, and to be playable by young performers who are beginning to develop their technique.
This album was created especially for children, parents and teachers: For children, so that they see the violin is a fun and beautiful instrument to play. For parents who are hoping that their children will pick up violin, to give their children accessible violin music to listen to. For teachers, who are looking for new, contemporary, or non-Suzuki repertoire for their students.
Notes on the composers and works are included, written by composer David Evan Thomas, courtesy of The Schubert Club, St. Paul, Minnesota.
"It’s refreshing to hear 20th century music performed by young violinists! They seem to relate to new harmony and rhythm without any hesitation!"
“I have been teaching violin for many years, but I never knew these pieces existed for young violinists!”
“I can’t believe that Elgar's 'Six Very Easy Pieces' are all playable on the first position, because they sound so pretty."
One college student majoring in Music Education picked Persichetti's Masque as part of his Senior recital. The faculty members were pleasantly surprised to hear this rare composition.

My Family Is Honored
author: Michael MollenhauerThank you for including my Grandfathers compositions, "The Infant Paganina Fantasia", and "The Boy Paganina Fantasia" on your CD. I grew up playing those songs as part of my musical training. Your presentation was brilliant, filled with emotion. Thank you for helping to bring all of this great music to light.
Music for the Young Paganini
author: Susan RustWhat a wonderful thing to hear these pieces recorded. These works were ones that I studied as a child (with the exception of the Elgar, which I was not familiar with). I had never heard recordings of these pieces before, so it is such an asset to have them for my students. Please produce more CD's such as these. They would be much appreciated.
Good work
author: Elvira López-SobalerI'm a violin teacher, and I believe that your CD is a very good tool of help for the learning of the pupils. It is a very nice version. I'm Spanish and here it's difficult to find a material like that. The sending(parcel) by post has been impeccable. Thank you.
Very useful
author: David PerassoThis is a great sampling of material for intermediate violinists. The choices are all beautiful and range from lively pieces to soulful melodies. Having the CD is extremely useful to me as an older violin student because I can choose music to work on that I like. The CD could have been better if the piano and violin were on separate tracks. Then it would be possible to use the CD as a back up CD for practice. Combined with software that slows down the music, it would have been a great practice tool. Other than that, I love the CD and am very pleased with it.
Valuable tool for choosing new repetoire
author: Karl KimmelAlthough I am a professional musician, I am a beginner to the violin. Consequently, it take me quite a while to master new pieces, even simple ones. This CD allowed me to better choose which pieces to invest my time in. My teacher and I am both very thankful for this well-played overview of beginning violin concert material.
well worth the money
author: jeff writing for katieMy daughter was a few weeks from her violin recital of the Young Paginini, having doubts she could play the piece and very frustrated. We purchased this CD. A large portion of her preparation was playing with this CD. She had her recital last weekend and received a superior rating. Well worth the money.
Beautiful in its own right and a fantastic aid to learning the repertoire!!
author: Barbara PhillipsI purchased this CD for my daughter, a violin student just ready to start learning the repertoire featured on Ms. Heberlein's CD. We've listened to it dozens of times and will no doubt keep in the carosel for at least another year as we work to master these pieces. Ms. Heberlein is flawless and very inpsiring. Her selection of music is perfect for advancing students at the Suzuki Book 4-5 level. My daughter's violin teacher decided to buy her own copy after listening to ours during a lesson. Thank you so much for being exactly what we were looking for!
