notes
In an industry that promotes one flavor of the month after the other, Yewande (pronounced E-wán-day) has become one of the most sought after independent artists in the world. Her socially charged brand of Alternative Soul music has captured audiences from B. E. T.'s "106th & Park" to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and most recently rocked audiences this summer with MTV Dance at the 2007 Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi, Africa. And her self-written/produced debut EP, "Evolution", has won over critics and true music lovers alike with an artistry that the world has been waiting for far too long. "In a musical era claustrophobic with sameness emerges an artist who has chosen to be a voice on an avenue of sound less traveled in today’s music. With increasing recognition in an industry where different doesn’t always get the credit it deserves, Yewande has joined the ranks of today’s pioneering artists (Eventlinks.com)". She seems destined to change how we look at life and listen to music, but it is likely Yewande's birth name (Yoruba for "reincarnation of grandmother) that has already placed her amongst the great storytellers of our time.
Since launching Lotus Records in 2003, Yewande's had the privilege of taking center stage with the likes of Black Eyed Peas, Enrique Iglesias, Michelle Branch, India.Arie, Sean Paul, A Simple Plan, Jason Mraz and Maroon 5, but nowadays you can find this award-winning singer-songwriter/producer turned lecturer and cultural activist using music to change many of the ills that still plague our society. As APCA's 2007 "Diversity Event of the Year", her award-winning motivational workshops and lectures on american music and popular culture are bridging the gap on racial tolerance and cultural understanding on college campuses across the globe. And as a cultural ambassador to the American Embassy, her efforts to bring hope to the world's most vulnerable children through her non-profit, The Change Rocks Foundation, are developing artistic programs to promote education, empowerment and cultural enrichment throughout Malawi, Africa.
But back to the music....in this mixed up crazy world, perhaps it's Yewande's relentless search for truth that has captured the hearts of so many. Poverty, love, war and religion are just some of the themes that paint the inspirational canvas of "Evolution". Much like her progressive contemporaries - Outkast, Lenny Kravitz, Meshell N'degeocello, Seal, Kina and Black Eyed Peas - Yewande's music dares to be bound by genre. "My music is written from the depths life's everyday struggles to survive....how can that be categorized?" Injected with a fusion of live band, world beats and pop sensibilities, her refreshing approach to writing and production is something to behold. Are you ready to elevate your soul? The journey begins with "Evolution".

MEDIA REVIEWS:
“She is Tina Turner, she is Nina Simone, she is Sarah Vaughan, she is Tracey Chapman, she is every woman of color who has stepped outside of the box and dared to represent something greater."
- Amplified.co.uk (United Kingdom)
"Many people hear music in their head, but often it never reaches the soul. Yewande is one of the rare artists who dare to speak to an audience about what most artists have forgotten, with a rich expression of creative genius that takes them on an unforgettable journey through music.”
- Indiana University (IN)
“The 2006 headline act of the Malawi Lake of Stars [Africa] was U.S.-based Yewande, a statuesque urban rock songstress, who seized the spirit of the audience and drove them into a frenzy. The magnitude of her voice left no-one untouched.”
- Paste Magazine (U. S.A.)
“Yewande is a true voice in the wilderness. A voice that is forging a deep change in the direction of where music is heading….paving the way for the comeback of artistry that has been lost in beats.”
- Shadesofwoman.com (U. S. A.)
“Yewande’s style of singing is not to be confused with other celebrities that have little substance and even less talent. She speaks of real world issues that have blackened the face of humanity. As soon as she opens her mouth a new day is born.”
- Fairleigh Dickinson University (NJ)
"Yewande's bluesy, funky and rocky voice shines through every heartfelt soul groove."
- Tokyo FM, Japan
"Soul-stirring and fresh. Yewande is a refreshing force in a musically stagnant industry."
- Honey Magazine
"Sultry, smoky and yet imbued with a honey-like sweetness, Yewande's voice resonates with a spellbinding, earthy soulfulness."
- Blues & Soul Magazine, London
"Yewande is the best new performer I have seen on the college circuit this past year!"
- APCA (Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities)

Loved it - waaay too short!
author: WEBI loved all of the tracks on the CD. Yewande does an excellent job in each style she sings. I only wish this were a full album, even if she had done covers. Her voice and arangements are truely unique and hit me where it counts. I can't wait to get more from this artist. I would love for her to perform in upstate New York where I might be able to see her live!

A rich soulful voice with driven emotion you cannot avoid...
author: tanjentsdotcom"Blind" is for all of the lost daughters out there wanting acceptance from their Fathers. Even though it is acceptance we may never see. The song offers us daughters a theme song begging for paternal tears. This, a way we grade sincerity, is longed for. Not knowing what to expect-caught her History of Music concert. She opened BEAUTIFULLY with Killing Me Softly. Watery eyes first song?! This was NOT supposed to happen. I knew I would never be the same. This record does NOT capture who she is and what she can do to you through song. She is beautiful in a way that cannot be captured unless you are stanging before her, mouth agape, attempting to soak her into your vein. Looking forward to the FULL release of Yewande.
What Alicia Keys can only DREAM of doing on a major label (fat chance!)
author: ManuelYup, yup, yup, see what happens to music done by artists that are THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED with the current state of the music industry? You can certainly count Yewande among them. I mean this woman truly "gets it" in every sense of the term. Not only does she have genuine singing talent (kinda reminds me of a young Angela Bofill sprinkled with some Etta James for an added kick),her songwriting chops are especially well-developed. No way you're gonna hear her belting out throwaway 3-minute pop ditties to a crowd of under-aged weenie tots who think real music is something only "old people" listen to. Her songs speak of issues that matter (or SHOULD matter) to us in light of the world as it stands today. It's also good to hear songs that are backed up by REAL INSTRUMENTS!!! You just don't know how much of a difference that makes until you hear the tracks on this EP for yourself. There's honestly NO substitute for the "old-school" way to making music. You either have it in ya or you don't, plain and simple. Wow, first Martha Redbone and now Yewande...guess the indie route IS what's happening these days!
Uncompromising, that's what real music is.
author: Shawn CA craftswoman of uncompromising taste. I would love to see Yewande and Eric Roberson jam on a duet! That would be crazy.
Awesome, inspirational, soothing, real, real good, different, great, beautiful &
author: Frances M.This CD is like none other and I encourage more music such as this. The world is full of ugly stuff, but this music helps you to realize life is not all bad.
