notes
Brooklyn-bred emcee Yah Supreme made a splash in the indie hip-hop scene with producer Cave Precise. Their first 12", "Old & Wise" was widely received and paved the way for them to release subsequent singles and a compilation on their self-owned label, Son Doo Recordings. With the backing of Fat Beats--the premier international independent distribution company specializing in vinyl-- Yah's material quickly circulated worldwide and received favorable reviews in such magazines as Vibe, Urb and HITS! The demand for Yah Supreme led to performances in various cities including Atlanta, Philadelphia and Paris.
In addition to releasing material through Parisian production company Underground Academy, Yah is performing regularly in New York City with his live band Brohemian. Buttressed by drums, percussion, bass, vintage keys and multi-part female harmonies the "Yah Supreme sound" has greater depth and finesse. Best described as "atmospheric hip-hop" his classic-soul inflected arrangements coalesce with plaintive anecdotes and earnest introspection.
In performance, Yah makes his college theatre training apparent, infusing each show with improv, stand-up and audience participation. Guest musicians and vocalists frequent Brohemian concerts, and jam sessions vary from funk to blues, disco to samba. The band has promoted their recent debut album "Post Modern Garden" in Williamsburg (Brooklyn) at Zebulon, Galapagos, Rose Live Music, Rain Lounge, Red & Black, B.P.M., Brooklyn Sole and at a weekly residency at Black Betty. Brohemian has also played dates at the Stephen Talkhouse, Sullivan Room, Ace of Clubs and the Delancey Lounge. Yah's history of appearances in New York includes S.O.B.s, CB's Gallery, Nuyorican Poets' Cafe, and a guest vocalist and emcee role at the NuBlu's monthly Meltin' Pot.

Love the music, I listen to it daily. It's always fresh and puts me in a good mood.
Your Music Sounds Hot Mate
author: KHADIJOYeah Mate, I like the music alot, although the rapping could have been a little bit more skillful. So the balance isn't there yet, but musically you've got something.Trust me, from one musician to another....it's there.

Self-described as "atmospheric hip hop," the waters through which these songs tread run much deeper than that. Respecting the music as an art form, the live band featured on this intricately woven collection is graceful but not timid, easily coaxing elemental funk out of the jazzy pallet that they work from. The percussion (along with the vocals) is rhythmically loose but precise, adding a musician's feel that is rarely seen in the current hip hop landscape. Yah's MC skills are equally on point, painting a vivid picture of Brooklyn past and present by taking the listener on a first hand verbal tour of the fabled neighborhood, recalling stories that merit a retelling. This narrative style is bold but becoming, a thematic vehicle that keeps the songs pushing forward with swelling intensity and intelligence.
