notes
The new self titled full length compact disc from long time dark wavers Written in Ashes, is the climax of the bands eight year career. This album surpasses all expectations, and is the pinnacle of WIA's evolution. Finally, all aspects of song writing and musicianship have come to together to create a flowing soundscape of voice and vision. Written In Ashes is a radical departure from WIA's past offerings, the new album is fueled by the balance of harmony and rhythm, passion and power. Some have called it "riveting", and others have said it to be "captivating", regardless, once you listen to Written In Ashes, you will agree that this will be one of the greatest underground releases of 2004.
Written In Ashes' self features the talents of group founder Kevyn Hay along with music veterans Ashe Ruppe (The Elysium Facade, Trance to the Sun, and Nocturne~pdx~), Jason Carter (Black Winter, Love Nancy Sugar), and Damon Law (theStark, sexwithsarah).
"After I have breathed my last breath,
And this life has left me,
Burn my body...
After the flames have gone out,
And the embers have cooled,
You will see my name...

Mesmerizing morbid sound to enjoy the ashes
author: Fata MorganaA strange mix of electronic sounds, goth vocals, nocturnal atmosphere, this CD is to be played when you can mostly pay attention to what you're listening to. You need the music to enter you skin. W.I.A. is more than simply goth, is like a trip in the modern darkness without compromises. You will love the sweet "ballads" and the more beating tracks. It's the perfect soundtrack for any night trip. ALL I EVER WATED should just be a hit.
Quality stuff!
author: DDTIf you like some good old goth in a modern suit, you can't get any better than this. Some really great songs on this record and the production is top-notch, I love the guitars. Quite a surprise and a must-buy!
The return of dark genius!
author: Sin-DThis is just an awesome CD - dark, gothy goodness, with an irresistable beat. "Unfaith" is just dead sexy. Glad to see these guys back on the map!

author: Randy RoskoDarkwave music veterans Written In Ashes return to the music arena with their strongest offering to date. The band's sound is very similar to classic Christian Death, and Kevyn D. Hay's vocals are reminiscient of Nosferatu's Dominic Lavey. The CD begins with "Solemnity VI," a cool atmospheric intro piece that blends electronic music with an old recording of a speech given in German. What follows is a solid musical assault comprised of some of the best goth-rock tracks released in recent years. Standout cuts include "Unfaith," which blends sensual lyrics with hard- edged guitar riffs, "Gypsum Rain," which is offered as two different mixes, and the eerie "Hell, Hope & High Water." This CD is solid from start to finish and should definitely launch Written In Ashes to the forefront of their genre. Highly recommended. ~ Randy Rosko (Dark Realms Magazine, Issue # 14)
