notes
The WIYOS are very very happy to announce the release of our second full length record, entitled Hat Trick. The record is a collection of 13 traditional songs pulled from our live set-list spanning our signature blend of Vaudevillian Ragtime/Jugband Blues and Hillbilly Swing. In these days of shimmering polished Pro-Tools editing and modern tweaking recording techniques, the band opted to take the opposite approach. After a busy summer touring Europe and the US, we went to the incredible PIE Studios in New York to play entirely live through some of the worlds best vintage gear. We cut the whole record in 3 days to 1 inch analogue tape using only two microphones in a live room. (of the 96 channels of beautiful Neve console, we used all of TWO!!!) Our amazing producer, Perry Margouleff, whose credits include many big rock names like Aerosmith, the Rolling Stones and Jimmy Page, captured both the sound and the spirit of the band in it's best live performances. Hat Trick puts the charm and arc of The Wiyos live show raw and true right in your room in the highest possible fidelity.

Hat Trick & The Wiyos
author: NancyWho needs coffee in the morning, when you have the Wiyos CD's?!!! We heard them in Jonesborough, TN this summer & had never heard anything like them. Toe-tapping, steering wheel slapping, happy mix of kazoo, great harmonica, guitar, washboard, and bass, with funny lyrics & an eclectic, unique sound. Hope they come back to Jonesborough this summer! Now is it pronounced "why-ohs" or "wee-ohs?"
The most fun your CD player will have for years!
author: Robert ColladayI heard half of a set in Winfield this year and I was hooked. I really enjoy the combination of great songs, great showmanship and great musicians. Hat Trick is a CD that gets stuck in your head in a good way. You'll be singing - "corn bread and butter beans..." for the rest of the day. "The Lady Quit Her Husband Onexpectedly" just never gets old and "Let's Incorporate" is infectiously cheerful. Oh and just who did steal that lock???? "You're Gonna Be Sorry" if you don't get this CD However it may lead you to believe you too can play Kazoo. This may create some tension in your home life as you "practice"!
Hats Up!
author: Steve LitsiosI stumbled on a video, followed to their web site and ended up here. No regrets, this is a great CD! Now I can only hope they play somewhere that I happen to be.
Wiyos Hat Trick
author: Tom McPheetersA very entertaining CD. They are a joy to listen to. I saw them over in Winfield and I had to get their CD.
Hat Trick
author: Sue SchollI heard this group at Winfield they were great I enjoy this CD
Hat Trick
author: Stephen CarterUnique and awesome stuff. I saw them live for the first time at Winfield Kansas's Walnut valley Music Festival the 3rd week of September, 2007 and they were a hit with everyone. The live effect on this CDworks well t ocapture the feel of thier live show. They are some real gone, knocked-out jailbirds! The guitar player fires off tommy-gun flurries of mad jazz chords and zillions of passing chords galore, while the bass player, looking like an Amish Zootmeister slaps that bass with finesse and verve and makes noises and faces and .... dare I give away the secret???? humps his bass like a desperate dog during one song. Hilarious The Middle man and his washboard with a menagerie of accessories and kazoos and harmonicas and that little hat and big attitude, straight from the moon, is a scattin, wailing, rhytmic maniac! Pure well-crafted lunacy! Top notch rhythms and musicianship, with a unique "send." Nary a dull moment, even with the slow songs. Zoot!
A wacko classic!
author: L. ForesThis CD completely captures the rollicking, fun-loving, spirited and truly insane joy of a Wiyos live show; the choice of songs is inspired, as always; obscure gems and even a Gershwin classic put through the wringer of Wiyos magic, sounding as if they just invented them for your listening pleasure; my utter respect for the traditional manner in which the set was recorded; these guys are the real deal; long may they tour and much success always!!!
Great and fun CD
author: DonnaGreat CD. We saw the Wiyos in Easthampton, MA and were blown away by their music, and the show. The CD is great, you feel like you are right there in the audience, again enjoying these guys with all of their great music, with all of their instruments, watching their antics, and enjoying the fun of the show! Great CD, I'll be getting another one of theirs soon! Thanks.
The only CD I need!
author: JuliThis CD will blow you away. An incredible mix of traditional songs from the teens and twenties, The Wiyos perform with poise and charisma. The music is fun, energetic and full of swing. You'll be dancing along in no time!

I am thoroughly enjoying the vaudevillian ragtime jugband hillbilly swing. The cd is wonderful and I'll certainly be getting the other albums.
Absolutely superb.
author: Rik Lee, UKI saw The Wiyos at The Living Room, NY and was amazed by their performance. This CD captures them perfectly and just makes me grin from ear to ear. It is everything a fantastic album should be - great songs played with integrity and joy by hugely talented people. A truly golden nugget of American culture. Thanks you.
Hilarity compresed into instrumental form and served with verve
author: RichardI first heard the Wiyos' Hat Trick songs in a London pub, where their cultural freshness and vigorous vaudeville couldn't have been more of a contrast to 'normal' pub music. There is an tongue-in-cheek infectiousness about their delivery, and a steady stream of surprises in the song changes. The CD 'works' because the lyrics and music give a real sense of the geographical and social origins of this genre of American music. A treat.
These guys are superb... don't even hesitate to buy this cd, it's ace
author: Gary KnightI saw these guys at the Reedham Ferry Folk festival, UK. They're top class musicians and great fun to watch live. I thoroughly enjoyed their performance and THIS CD IS GREAT !!! BUY IT...YOU'LL LOVE IT.

author: BartThis album is musically stronger and more consistent than the Wiyos first album. Extremely entertaining and well worth the purchase.
I really enjoy this type of music.
author: TimThe song, Who stole the lock off the henhouse door, rocks! My daughter and I are always playing this CD in our house or in my truck. This is a must hear CD.
a happy cd
author: michelleThis cd is in my car at all times. It is a feel-good celebration of old timey music. The Wiyos' talent really comes through!
Just Like the Real Thing
author: Mary McdonaldThis is their best CD to date. It really captures a lot of how great they are in life performance.
Really enjoyed it!
author: JackieHave really enjoyed this CD. Sadie Green and Summertime are awesome. Hope they do many more.
Great CD
author: GillThe CD is brilliant. Full of variety so didn't get bored at all. One of the best versions of 'Summertime' I have ever heard - and I've heard a few!!! Good live sound, brought back memories of Wiyos in English festivals last year. Come back again, please
Fabulous CD...totally Wiyos.
author: Julia MayerThis CD is an absolute direct portrayal of the Wiyos exactly as they sound. It's really amazing that they were able to capture it all in the CD. If you like the Wiyos on stage (which I do, and I hope you do) this is like carrying their stage presence everywhere with you in your pocket.
WIYO's CD is fabulous! Thanks!
author: Lorraine H.I received my WIYO's CD 'Hat Trick'. It came quickly and I am really happy about it because it is a fabulous album. I heard them at the Rosendale Cafe. The Wiyo's are brilliant! Thanks!
Thank you for releasing a new CD - we have worn out the old one!
author: Julie and PhilWe were introduced to the WIYO's last spring in New Orleans and were immediately drawn to their energy and vitality as a live act. Somehbow they manage to convey this same presence on their CD: Hat Trick contains the same WIYO's sound we have come to love, and lays down tracks of some favourites that we have been singing since seeing them live!
Uplifting, entertaining and full of funny noises
author: Steve MulfordI had been wearing the WIYOs first album out by listening to it too much, so I was ever so glad they brought out another. I was pleased to discover it is just as entertaining as their first, but with a more authentic and consistent sound and possibly an even greater variety of funny noises. Willfully old-fashioned and hugely enjoyable.
Quintesential WIYOS!
author: BeckyHaving been a fan for 3 years now, it is exciting to hear this new CD that is so full of energy! It is better than their first CD and that's hard to beat. I felt like I was in the audience enjoying the live show.
