notes
Wither is a musical journey to a place that is both pleasantly familiar and excitingly new. Their dedication to bringing back the mystique of the rock show has struck a chord with many audiences, who are seeking not only to be entertained, but to be moved. This and successful self-promotion has made Wither a steadfast force on the SD music scene, putting them into the top clubs in the area Such as 4th & B, Canes, and Brick by Brick.
In late 2001 the band went into the studio With Steve Russel at Golden Tracks Studios, who have recorded P.O.D and Sepultura among others. The result was an 8 song album titled "Origin", which allowed the band to spread their music in ways that had not been possible before. Not long after, Wither was getting song play on local college radio, and major San Diego radio station Rock 105.3. Reaching out from San Diego, Wither performed live on University of Pepperdines' College TV program "The Randumb show", played the world famous Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood several times, and is currently gearing up to perform at the Las Vegas Comic-Con. Several well known online publications, such as BandConnexion.com and Metal-Observer.com have been spreading word about Wither as well. Wither's second studio album is set to release in October of 2003. Stay tuned for more news.
Wither's music combines something older with something newer, and then adds something uniquely 'them' to the mix. The intensity of the Drums, bass, and the clean, emotional vocals sometimes bring to mind Tool, while certain guitar rhythms and harmonies have been compared to the timeless work of Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath. Synthesizers are used subtly throughout creating undercurrents in the music that range from mournful to glorious in tone, bringing to mind Evanessence and Type O Negative. The music is not simply heavy and dark however. Softer passages are heard throughout; creating something along the lines of Pink Floyd meets The Cure. This more sensitive aspect of Wither adds a sense of balance to the overall sound and is a defining trait that separates them from many heavy bands.

Sweet CD. I especially like "Virgin Moments Left Undone"
author: LanthirAt first I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but after I listened to it a couple of times I started really getting into it. I especially like the songs "Avalon" and "Virgin Moments Left Undone."
Melancholy, Depressing, Doomy, and pretty damn cool.
author: James DouglasTake a huge scoop of My Dying Bride, and 2 cups of the Cure, a teaspoon of elecrtonica, and you'll have yourself a fresh batch of "Origin" by Wither. The My Dying Bride influence is immediately noticed upon first listen. Every song has been soaked in melancholy and angst, and I say that in a good way. The clean vocals on this album are just wonderful. Beautiful and sorrowful. The death vocals are good as well. The drumming was a perfect fit for this album. I think my favorite track would be "The Leaving". I can honestly say that I will without a doubt be buying the second release. P.S. The comparison to Evanessence in the main description is not only totally false, but an insult.
dark, ambient, calming, envigorating, moving, absolutely beautiful
author: DawnfeatherThis is the first I had heard of Wither, and I absolutely love them and this album. CdBaby's description is a good one, so I will not repeat it. This Cd goes from being beautiful and melodic to much more hardcore, and back again absolutely seamlessly. It never gets so loud that you loose the integrity of the music like a lot of metal does. I listen to this album when I'm studying, in a bad mood, in a good mood, having intense conversations with people, brooding, going to sleep, waking up... you get the idea. If youre debating whether this Cd is worth the ten bucks, it totally is. it so totally is. Yeah, thats it. ----Favorite Track: Virgin Moments Life Undone -----Only Complaint: They don't tour on the east coast.

The CD "Origin" is eight songs of well-crafted writing and playing.
author: BandConnexion.comWith the Errie beginning of 'Tidal Waves of Light', Wither sets you up for what's going to be one wild ride of emotion. The band is like black sand, smooth to the touch and filled with anger and pain. How can you classify a band that takes influences form just about every genre of music? You cannot and that's what makes Wither so Special. The CD "Origin" is eight songs of well-crafted writing and playing.
