The Witching's heavy sound combines crunchy guitar riffs and driving beats topped with classic rock and indie melodies. This is harmonically adventurous, down and dirty rock and roll influenced by many musical styles.

notes

The Witching is a 5-piece, all-female hard rock band based in Ithaca, NY. Their debut show in July of 2002 was noted as one of the year's musical highlights by the local press. The Witching's heavy sound combines crunchy guitar riffs and driving beats topped with classic rock and indie melodies. The band released their debut self-titled album in September, 2003.

The Witching's first full-length album features 10 of their most rocking, crowd-pleasing tunes, exemplifying surprisingly mature songwriting for a band barely a year old. They plan to promote the album by gigging extensively in the tri-state area, and have established their own record label, All Night Records, to handle retail and Internet distribution and promotion to press and radio.

Born of a pure desire to rock, The Witching coalesced in the spring of 2002 when frontwoman Ruby Beil and rhythm guitarist Maco Rodriguez collided head-on with blistering lead guitarist Meryl Bursic and the rhythm section of Eva Revesz on bass and Barb Dybwad on drums. Beil's animated howlings and growlings on stage are matched by Bursic's ferocious abuse of her current favored vintage guitar. Rodriguez provides chunky, syncopated metal riffs above Revesz's rock solid bass lines and Dybwad's frenetic drumming. Visual spectacle notwithstanding, the Witching's live show is guaranteed to provide an earful of driving rock 'n' roll.

With their new album in tow and rock in their veins, The Witching will be descending upon a town near you! The experience is not to be missed.

  • There's a LOT to recommend The Witching! Just listen to it!!!
    author: Jack Little/Metal Maidens

THE WITCHING are from Ithaca, NY. I think they’re from the wrong end of the country. They sound like a Los Angeles band: GUNS ’N’ ROSES or L.A.GUNS for example. The subjects of the songs and some of the music have a lot in common. None of it has to do with witchcraft. The sound of the instruments together is quite good. Meryl Bursic on lead guitar and Maco Rodriguez on rhythm guitar are a good team. It allows both note playing and (different sets of) chords at the same time. It gives the music a stronger and heavier sound. The rhythms are varied. This is due to the ability of Eva Revesz on bass and Barb Dybwad on drums. Ruby Beil can change the vocals to suit the song. Some go ahead and rock, while others are strained or sultry. The CD starts with “Got Me Running”. It’s good listening, if you like hard rock. It has a strong intro and the band rocks together. The guitar pace is fast, but not too fast. Ruby's vocals can be sultry, but have strength.”Bad Mofos” asks where all the bad boys and girls have gone. “Rock ‘N’ Roll” allows the band to stretch out and play. It says "I don't need a DJ or your digits, all I need is rock and roll". There's a lot to recommend THE WITCHING. Just listen!!!!

  • Great jewel case design and sound

This bold album LOOKS good and SOUNDS great. These hard working gals have thought about all aspects of the CD, the songs, and the tracks - very thorough. It's visual and audio art in one package.

  • An antidote to corporate jock rock
    author: Bill Stockton

These hard-hitting ladies put out an album of hard and heavy, yet melodic, tunes. I put on "Wrecking Ball" in my car and kick-start my morning. "Let Us Drown" is a metal anthem any Iron Maiden fan will dig. This is not an album with "filler" - each track hits hard and stands on its own. Check it out.

  • The Witching's debut CD is one hard rocking mama.
    author: Rhonda Hearse

The Witching's self-titled debut CD is one hard rocking mama. These ladies are tough but smooth and will surprise you with their gritty, but lovable tunes. I'm eager to hear what they have in store for their next album. A recent show I saw featured some new tunes, and I was amazed by their growing dynamic. They are sick live! And this CD captures that energy. Long live The Witching!
