ABOUT THE SHACK RECORDINGS

The Shack Recording, a CD that will be released in the summer of 2005 is the magical relationship between Tom Wilson and Bob Lanois. It is one of the most natural artistic treatment of original songs to be heard in a long time.

The Album was made in Bob Lanois' shack on a piece of land outside Hamilton, Ontario. The duo used ancient recording gear (owned by Bob and his brother Daniel Lanois) which lent itself to the pure performance captured on two inch tape.

The 15 recording sessions took place over a year and a half which gave the material a chance to breathe rather then be choked. The result is a True Roots Field recording.

Tom Wilson and Bob Lanois produce a beautiful campfire feel to their live performances with Tom on guitar and vocals and Bob on harmonica and percussion.

TOM WILSON

Tom Wilson is a three-time Juno Award winner and has toured the world with his band Junkhouse, and presently the Canadian Roots Supergroup, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.

Planet Love, the debut release from Tom Wilson, spawned the hit single Dig It which appeared in a handful of movies and T.V. His songs have been recorded by artists including Colin James, Mavis Staples, Murray McLauchlan, and Billy Ray Cyrus to name a few.

Along with his friends, Stephen Fearing , Colin Linden, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have picked up fans as diverse as Merle Haggard, The Cash Family, Joel and Ethan Coen, and U.S. President George W. Bush. He continues to write and perform solo all over North America.

BOB LANOIS

Bob Lanois is an interpretive artist both visually and musically. With his brother Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno, Bob hosted the birth of what the world would come to know as ambient music.

"Ambient Music was born in Hamilton, Canada," Bob proudly answers.

Bob also produced and engineered the first punk album in his mother's basement. Simply Saucer's only recording is recognized around the world as a groundbreaking musical statement. Bob also produced one of the first singer songwriters to come out of Canada when he stepped behind the recording console to record Willie P. Bennett's Blackie and the Rodeo Kings.

À PROPOS DE L'ALBUM THE SHACK RECORDINGS

  • Why not in the Netherlands???
    author: Alexander

Sometimes it's hard to live in the Netherlands. We've got some great musicians too but for this kind of music you've got to live in Canada... The rawness, purity and poetry is unique. Chapeau and keep on writing songs.. Also listen to Bob lanois' record Snake road

The cover looks like something from "Deliverance", but listening to it didn't make my bum sore at all. This is a great album!

  • You knew what you were expecting before you hit play, and got it.
    author: John Madjeruh from Grimsby.

The only thing missing was smelling the smoke fron the wood stove and listening to Bob & Tom tune up. Real poetry from two great artists. Raw and stripped down, you're either gonna get this album or not. Maybe it helps I'm from Hamilton and know where Fennell Square is but I doubt it. Anyone anywhere should be able to appreciate this soulful body of work. Can't wait for Vol. II

  • Stripped down "field recording" from the Woods
    author: Rein

This is a very pleasant field recording with sparse but functional usage of instruments. Tom Wilson know from Junkhouse, Florida Razors and Blackie & the Rodeo Kings opens his heart. Clean and honest production! Thanks Gentlemen !

  • The Soul of Tom Wilson
    author: Pat Walsh

The Shack Recordings is absolutely gorgeous. Tom Wilson covers Stephen Fearing's fine That's How I Walk and Dylan's Girl from the North Country and makes these songs his own. And when he sings his own songs, he willingly hands them over to make them ours. Listening to Tom Wilson sing, with Bob Lanois's backup, is like climbing into and sharing Tom's soul for a while. A remarkably beautiful and honest place to be.

  • Pure, raw and unpolished - music for the soul
    author: Maureen Dagg

After seeing Tom Wilson live in Almonte, I was searching for more of his raw, soulful sound. I was happy to find The Shack Recordings, Vol.I, and I am glad to say that it delivers in spades! This CD is NOT polished and over-produced! It's the next best thing to having these talented artists right there in the room - just bare bones music from where it counts. Poetry about and from lives lived in the fullest. Tom, Bob and friends have produced a CD that will live long and well, though you won't be hearing much of this one on run-of-the-mill radio! "Vol.I" gives us the tantalizing promise of more to come...
