We Were Pirates is Michael Boggs. Armed with an electric guitar, a casio keyboard, a sparse drum kit, and a laptop, he crafts annoyingly catchy yet simple pop songs. Subject matter ranges from really fun parties and the cruelty of love to self-imposed isolation and geographical dissatisfaction.
We Were Pirates recently released a five song ep entitled, "The Wolf." The entire ep was written, performed, recorded, and produced by Boggs in his bedroom on his trusty iBook. Boggs' unique, minimalist approach to writing and production takes cues from Yo La Tengo, the Beach Boys, Weezer, and Beck.

catchy and sweet
author: KimThis is a great little CD, reminds me of Pedro the Lion's more upbeat moments. Starts out with a really fun tune, "Move Around The Room," that grabs your attention almost instantly with a casio drumbeat. That and "Nervous" are the standouts but all of the songs are really good. Even more impressive, it was all performed and recorded by one guy in his bedroom. Sweet.
