Singer/songwriter/guitarist Geoffrey Welchman's first album is a quiet gem--recorded in a single afternoon session--featuring some of Welchman's best songs.
The infectious "folkrocky blues" hearkens back to some of his first influences: the Beatles, Sly and the Family Stone, and Joan Armatrading. His first professional performance was at Greenwich Village's Folk City.
In rock bands and as a solo act he has performed at many New York City landmarks, including CBGBs, Café Siné, and the Village Vanguard, as well as throughout the SF Bay Area. Settling in Baltimore in early 2001, he recorded this album later that year.

...it goes to show that even a music journalist can make good on sounds he covers. He has the way. ...his guitar and voice meld. It works and has the power to hit you deep. Do your mind a favor and pick up this record.
Decca, host of "At the Café Bohemian", KZSU radio
..interesting, thought-provoking, and well-written..."Comfort Noise" is relaxed, endearing, and completely no-frills...Among my favorites are "Freddie's Lament" (think Scooby-Doo) and "Pterodactyl" (a charming, child-like fairytale set to music)...watch for imaginative rhymes, great visual images, and an impressive use of wordplay. Overall the songs range from a non-traditional folk sound, through to the blues and more edgy rock-based tracks...this is good music.

I just can't get enough of this man and his music. That one man can write and then perform such outstanding lyrics and music and then present it all with a voice that should be on the top 40 boggles this fans mind. Keep 'em coming.
Very well done!
author: BrendaVery intelligently written and well performed. I love to listen to this over and over. This album has great heart. It really comes across.
was blown away by the soulfullness
author: LeahThe soulfullness and warmth of this cd transports you into the lyrics and occasion of the song. the acoustics and instrumental are just awsome and the voice is best called soulfull at its heart.
Clear vocals, intelligent lyrics, robust guitar
author: NormaThe takeaway feeling of this compilation is gratitude. Listening to the songs, I am grateful that life has uncertainty, heartache, and injustice; it gives songs like these a chance to bring about hope, romance, and acceptance.
Outstanding disc !
author: LisaLoved everything about this cd. Great guitar, lyrics and Mr. Welchman has a wonderfully edgy/soulfulness to his performance. Even my adolescent son loved it ! (Can't wait for his next one)
