A few words from Steve Weingart on "Dark Blue Dream":
I am very happy to announce the release of my 2nd CD. The musicians on this recording with me are: Frank Gambale-guitar, Jimmy Earl-bass, Tom Brechtlein-drums. There are also guest appearances by: Ernie Watts-saxophone on 'Asfew', Ronnie Gutierrez-percussion on 'Asfew', and my wife, Renee Jones-bass on 'Soundscape 1', 'Soundscape 4', and 'Unforgotten Path'. Renee also sings on '3 Til Dawn' and 'Unforgotten Path'.
I wrote all of the music for this CD which was originally recorded in 2004. It was my intention to record this CD in the spirit of live performance. I wanted to convey the feeling to the listener of being at a concert. In a live concert setting, musically speaking, anything can happen, and with the right chemistry with the musicians, it does! This has a direct reflection on the duration of these songs. I'm not hiding the fact that a lot of the songs are long by today's popular radio standards. "Time flies when you're having fun" and this is what happened during those 2 days in the studio recording this music. I think out of my friendship and respect for each of the musicians, it needs to be said as complimentary as possible: Each song is a 'one take' performance, and if I may say: great performances they are!
I began mixing and editing all of this music earlier this year (2006) using "Logic Pro" on my computer. I wrote some new songs that were born in the experimenting process of learning "Logic". These songs are: 'Soundscape 1', 'Soundscape 4', and 'Unforgotten Path', all of which feature my wife, Renee. We really enjoyed our time in the studio together, and I believe you can hear that in the music. I also went on an 'editing journey' on what became 'Outside In (Part 2)'. Using drum loops and synthesizer sounds from 'Spectrasonics' "Atmosphere" and "Stylus RMX" software, and "Logic's" synthesizer modules, I was able to create a dreamy state that included Frank's guitar lines from 'Outside In (pt.1).
I'm proud of the work that went into this CD, and am honored to have such great friends and musicians share their talents and these musical moments with me. Thanks for sharing this musical journey with us.

Nice Writing
author: MWHave been a big fan of Steve's writing since hearing his work with Weckl, and this record continues the tradition. Some great cuts, not to mention playing, on this one. Recommended.
Fantastic
author: George MitchellSteve writes memorable melodys here, not always the case with jazz and fusion. Love his synth. sounds and Rhodes work. With Frank Gambale, Jimmy Earl, Tom Brechtlein etc., hard to go wrong with this great lineup. This music is crushing, highly recommended.
Awesome
author: Jason SmithIf you liked his work with Dave Weckl, you'll LOVE this! I'm eagerly waiting more of his work! Gambale is amazing as always as well!! Dig this record!
great!
author: DBWeingart blew me away during his weckl-band days, but this is evidence that Steve Weingart is an amazing composer/player. what is left to say about f. gambale, jimmy earl and brechtlein? highly recommended
Maybe even better than his first
author: Thomas Marup HansenThanks Steve, in my humble opinion this might even be better than the first disc(Life times). Especially check out 3 til Dawn, Asfew and the soundscapes, but actually all the tracks are very good. As his previous, it's some of the best fusion out there, ranking up with the electric band, vital information etc. Meaningfull compositions and smoking fusion, RECOMMENDED!
Just as good as you would expect
author: Jeff HoraThere are NO clunkers on this CD. I particularly enjoyed the two Soundscapes, as they really did seem to describe a place or time. Great playing, good compositions and very tight sound.
More music like this please!
author: Gavin HadleyFusion is absolutely the best music out there and we need more of it. Mr. Weingart is a great musician and has succeeded in surrounding himself with other greats. Anytime you talk Frank Gambale into covering guitars on your CD you simply can't miss. If you are a fan of fusion, this disc will not disappoint.
