notes
This is my first "Solo" CD. Most tracks were recorded "after hours" at Phil Punch's new Electric Ave studio in Sydney. The piano is a Yamaha C7. Most of the piano tuning was done by Michael Karlberg. I plugged an AKG C24 microphone straight into my motu828 audio card into my laptop. 2 tracks "five" and "rising" where composed more recently (2006) in New York and recorded at "The studio" in Brooklyn. The piano is a reasonably new Steinway "b" and the engineer was Jon Rosenberg. The 2 electric tracks where recorded at home in Australia. "reeks", reeks of Allan Holdsworth to me hence the title. Unusual for me, I recorded a couple of cover tunes. "All across the Universe" is a simple reharmonisation of the John Lennon classic. "The very thought of me" is an improvisation based on the changes of. “The very thought of you “on the Oberheim "Xpander ". I slowed the form down so that there is 2 bars for each chord.
