notes
Wanelle, an only child, was raised in the country near a small rural town, Cochran, Ga. Her mother taught elementary school and her father farmed their 115-acre farm and worked at a chalk mine near Macon, GA.
Wanelle has loved singing and writing songs since she was a young child and sang in talent shows at school or wherever she could find an opportunity. As a teenager, she performed on a Macon, GA, television station in the Cerebal Palsy Telethon singing the old Ray Charles favorite, "I Can't Stop Loving You".
In the fall of 1999, she began singing with a small group in Bonaire, GA, in the home of Bill and Dot Lloyd. In their living room for three hours each Tuesday evening, Wanelle and her friends Bill Lloyd, Bob Roach, Rick Jones, and Harold Tallent, would play and sang their favorite songs. It was here she learned to play the acoustic guitar and, also, fine-tuned her singing abilities. They, along with other musicians in their area grouped to play at local picnics, churches, and Christmas parties.
In Jun of 2002, she was invited to sing at the Powersville Opry in Powersville, GA, each weekend. On 14 Sep 04, Doug Welch of the Klassic Kountry Band invited Wanelle on stage to sing several impromptu songs with his group at the Powersville Opry. The crowd loved her and she was asked to join their band as a regular performer.
Wanelle, and her singing partner, Ray Knighton, subsequently organized a dynamic new group of talented musicians called "Phoenix". This group performs almost every weekend, and they turn out great shows. They are a favorite with the audiences wherever they perform.
Life has taken some interesting and unexpected turns for Wanelle since that Saturday night in September 02. In December of 2002 and 2003 she starred in country music Christmas specials produced locally for a Macon, GA, television station. Both TV specials were a great success and were aired numerous times during Christmas each year. Wanelle has established quite a following of loyal fans in the short time she has been performing publicly.
She was recently named the "Spotlight of the Month" for Jun 04 by the Y-96 radio station out of Dublin, GA. She performs weekly with her band, Phoenix, and her long-time friend Ray Knighton. Wanelle and Ray recently cut another album, "Together Again", also, available at this website.
"Do Me A Favor - Don't Love Me" contains a collection of some of Wanelle's favorite songs and also includes one of the many songs she has written, "Do Me A Favor - Don't Love Me". Look for much more from this talented newcomer in the future as she lives her dream.
