notes
This is the debut CD of The Walker Avenue Gang featuring John Harbison and Edna Searles. Songwriters DAN SEARLES and DAVE LOKOS wrote 15 OF THE 16 original l6 cuts after obsessing on Johnny Cash's American recordings. They studied and tried to recreate the often stripped down roots music they loved so much. John Harbison, the band's pianist and co-producer debuted as an opening act for the Beach Boys at age 14. He has jammed with Brian Wilson, opened the Smithsonian Folk Festival and been a fixture on the Washington D.C. music scene for decades. Edna Searles is a well known artist, sculptor and eclectic musician. Here she shows off her skills playing the strum stick on a song called Izzy's Jig that was literally written while she rode out the hurricane of the same name. To Dan and Dave, Johnny Cash has always been the future of music. On this CD they try to take the listener back there.
