With one foot in the library and the other on the dancefloor, Voxtrot combine classic 60's pop (think Love and Left Banke) with the heady, subversive sounds of 80's Britain and still come out ahead of their time.

notes

With one foot in the library and the other on the dancefloor, Voxtrot combine classic 60's pop (think Love and Left Banke) with the heady, subversive sounds of 80's Britain and still come out ahead of their time. Supported by only their Bus Stop (Apples In Stereo, Television Personalities, Rocketship) / Cult Hero (Sound Team) "Start of Something" 45, Voxtrot has been selling out shows in New York and Texas.

"Voxtrot have been taking the indiepop world by storm lately, and after hearing this ep - it's quite easy to see why!" - IndiePages, August 2005

"..five songs loaded with cool pop production and a hint of class rarely seen in today's indie-rock scene. It's impossible to listen to Voxtrot without tapping your toes or smiling from enjoyment. As far as debuts go, Raised by Wolves proves to be a great debut, a wonderful introduction that establishes Voxtrot as a band with a lot to offer the world." - Mundane Sounds, August 2005

"The future is promising indeed for Voxtrot, Austin's answer to precious, literate pop. Their debut EP falls somewhere between 'name that Smiths song' and toe-tapping, Anglophiliac twee-pop perfection." - Austin Chronicle, April 2004

"Voxtrot is the real deal... Think Cure, Elkland, Smiths, Bloc Party, Killers, Bravery, Roy Orbison(?!)...just about everything good all tied up into one little package. They were superb live, and were able to fill Rothko up to capacity, a task I've only seen done before by The Secret Machines and The Futureheads. Bravo." - Centralvillage, January 2005

"Like the lost offspring of the Smiths and the Pale Saints, Voxtrot offer a hefty production. Their music, like The Dears', is laden with multiple guitars, the occasional waft of strings, and the sweetest vocals since the early '90s, when twee crumpets and adolescent angst fresh from English townsinvaded the States." - See You In The Pit, March 2005

"Dashing through the decades like a groupie on speed, longtime Austin fivepiece Voxtrot takes elements from Gang of Four, Joy Division, the Smiths, and R.E.M., rubs them up in a tight little ball, and bounces it on the hi-hat in rhythm." - SXSW Picks & Sleepers, Austin Chronicle 2005

  • Watch out - here comes the next big thing!

I really like both of their CD-EPs. They have a great pop sensibility for today's generation and at the same time respect their elders (Smiths, Cure, REM, and I even detect passing nod to The Housemartins). They sound like a band that's coming in to their own. "Raised By Wolves" delivers on the pop promise set forth by their preceeding "Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, and Wives". Sonic, melodic, rockin, wonderful!

  • great EP, amazing lyrics

I bought the EP after hearing "Start of Something" last fall on WOXY (Cincinnati). The other songs are just as good, and the lyrics are really impressive for such a young band.

  • you really need this disc

The Start of Something is the stand-out track on this ep...so strong, it overshadows all the other tracks. I was a little disappointed to hear the other tracks at first, since the vocals on Start...are run through an effects box thingie. Do not dismay, however! Even without the added charm from the magic box, this band has great melodic sensibility, depth and simplicity--vocals, instruments and timing are all strong. Good indie pop, delightful, sad, never depressing, never fluffy. Well worth the investment, even without that magical, magical song. I am saving up for the next EP and expect to hear more wonderful stuff from this band.

This band rules. Ramesh has a voice like an angel, and they have a great indie/cure/pixies sound.
