Vortex's first CD is 10 songs (39 minutes) of trip-hop. Think of "Sade on Acid", Everything But the Girl, Bjork, Selena(?), and, oh - Richard Wagner.

  • excellent mood music
    author: A Hernandez

This is by far one of the best trip-hop (if I had to put it in a category) albums I have heard. The music is lush, the songwriting dense but eloquent, and the vocals sensuous without being overwhelming. The opening and ending tracks (oxygen and it had 2bblue) are the perfect bookends for an awesome album.

  • Keeps me warm when it is 8 degrees outside

All right. Disclosure. One of them is a friend of mine. But I don't write puffy reviews ( the Bush Administration isn't paying me, and neither is she ). I am a big fan of sophisticated techno and people like Billy Joel, Sting, Bono, as well as Sammartini, Josquin de Pres, and Orlando di Lassus. ( not found, usually in Rolling Stone ). They are great. Sound is soothing, sexy , passionate and provocative all at the same time.....I really like the first and last ones, Oxygen and It Had2BBlue. But the level of excellence of the entire CD makes it a must for your collection.

  • Ecletic mix with good beats.
    author: Kabrown

An eclectic mix of instruments and voice that often leaves my head bopping up and down in time with the music. Soothing vocals, especially on "It Had 2BBlue" (which plays like a homage to big band and jazz) that have you listening less to what they're saying and more to the sound of the vocalist.
