notes

Vincent Montana, Jr., legendary Producer, Arranger, Composer and Creator of The Salsoul Orchestra, and his Philly Sound Works label are back with this extraordinary new production. “That’s What Love Does” is a dedication to Montana’s love of Philly Soul and is without a doubt a classic from the 21st Century!

The original version with its laid-back feel is a genuinely soulful piece complete with lush strings, cool vibes and all the added touches and quality expected of a Montana production. To bring it all together, Montana calls on veteran performer William ‘Smoke’ Howard, formerly of ‘The Ebonys’ to complement the classic feel of the project with his timeless powerhouse vocals. Right at home, Smoke effortlessly captures and projects the very heart and soul of the song and dynamically delivers the message ‘Love Always Finds A Way’…and may even raise a goose-bump or two!

While keeping the integrity of the original song, Louis Benedetti gives the original his treatment on the Club Vox bringing The Philly Sound to a whole new level by speeding it up a notch, adding an infectious groove driven bass line, funky guitars and spotlighting a tight and precise Vibe solo from Montana. The Classic Dub follows in the footsteps of the Vocal Remix and the Reprise Dub utilizes some of the funkiest elements of the Original Mix. Bonus tracks include 3 previously unreleased versions!

  • All the "Montana" trademarks are there
author: Curtis Zack, Blues & Soul

The legendary producer and creator of the Salsoul Orchestra is back with a new release and a new album on his Philly Sound Works label. Fans of Mr. Montana's work certainly won't be disappointed as all the trademarks are there from soaring strings to funky vibes. Soulshine's Louis Benedetti also supplies an excellent re-work that loses none of the charm of the original, but brings it in line for today's demanding dancefloors. 4/5

  • A typically soul-drenched affair that provides something for all
    author: Greg Fenton, Update

The legend behind The Salsoul Orchestra returns to the fold with this typically soul-drenched affair. The Original mix oozes class with its sweeping strings, funky percussion and emotive vocals. Traditional as it most definitely is, this works like any good song should. Louis Benedetti then updates the rhythm section with a House flavour to make the song truly shine. You'll find both dub's and vocal versions on here to provide something for all. 4/5

  • A must for garage fans and modern DJs
    author: Yogi Haughton, DJ Magazine

The disco/boogie legend who produced, wrote and arranged material for top disco stable Salsoul back in the day is back on form with his Philly Sound Works label. Of course the vibes are the prominent instrument, although there is a strong disco/garage scent in the air on the Club Vocal. The Original and Classic Dub mixes walk a thin line between house and soul, making this a must for garage fans and modern DJs. Strong vocals are present too. 4/5

  • This is a serious release!
    author: David Colkett, Discoid

If you are a fan of the Montana sound like I am you will adore this new tune. It is like hearing a tune and trying to work out how you missed it when it first came out - only to discover that it is actually brand spanking new! A Mr. Montana in fantastic form with the great soulful vocals of William Howard, this is highly recommended indeed!

  • Soulful meaningful dancefloor house does not come better than this.
author: Mark Moore, Blues & Soul

The Salsoul Orchestra's head honcho releases this preview to the Revival Project Album. The Original is stunning true Philadelphia soul with its lounge vibe. The Club Vocal from Louis Benedetti comprises a nice Latin rhythm, guitar riff, sumptuous strings and lovely chimes - it's faultless. Louis' Classic Dub is even more upbeat, a real musical treat with Montana on Vibraharp and with the Reprise Dub and Radio Edit included on the package too, every base is covered. A classic in the making. 5/5
