VICTORIA VOX and her jumping flea
New Album out February 7, 2006 on Obus Music
Go on and take a stroll through the quaint cafes of rural France; sit back, relax in a swinging hammock, and sip on a Mai Tai; set yourself up on a horse, trolley through the rust tones of Arizona and watch the sun set on the horizon. Or don’t. Victoria Vox and Her Jumping Flea will take you there. These ten refreshingly uplifting ditties performed on her “jumping flea” ('ukulele in Hawaiian) are guaranteed to make you laugh, dance and spread a smile from the Atlantic to the Pacific. This is a timeless collection of toe-tapping classics for every season and for music lovers of all ages.
On Jumping Flea, her fifth solo release, but first album of songs written for and performed solely on the ukulele, Victoria Vox manages to incorporate the many aspects of her self. The hopeless romantic has sonically captured the soft pangs of love’s frustrations and the glorious feat of falling right back into it. There are songs of travel and change; Vox grew up near Green Bay, Wisconsin, but has tiptoed through Boston, Nashville, London, and driven, both ways, on nearly every major highway in the United States.
As a full time independent songwriter, Vox has criss-crossed our great country, finding inspiration in every piece of asphalt that tickles her tires. In fact, several of the songs on Jumping Flea were composed while she was behind the wheel (hey, it’s a small instrument and Vic’s got a very steady knee!) The emotional homeland anthem “America,” one of these road-written numbers, is a love song to the proverbial 'you’ that umbrellas all of those who have offered support and encouragement, beds and food, kind words, and handshakes along the way.
Fluent in French after a high school foreign exchange program, Vox was introduced to the music of Noir Désir and Manu Chao, co-writers of “Le Vent Nous Portera.” Translated to “the wind will carry us,” it’s an atmospheric adventure through time and science. Hitting hard on the opposite end of the spectrum, Vox’s version of the Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer,” a cover both obscure and recognizable, features a driving cello that carries the profound weight of this orchestral opus.
Probably the most recognizable track on the album, and the initial inspiration for her ukulele endeavor, is Vox’s take on Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo`ole’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World.” When introduced by one of its many blockbuster soundtrack homes, the song brought her to tears; Vox knew she’d have to play it, and for months she did, on guitar. Back home in Green Bay, an established music aficionado suggested Vox try a more fitting musical medium for the song and loaned her a ukulele. She took it and ran with it, literally!
Her progression thereafter was bunny quick! She barely started learning chords when she wrote “Dreamin’ 'Bout You,” her first original ukulele song. Other Jumping Flea originals include the 20’s-esque love song “My Darlin’ Beau,” “Yodelayhehoo,” a feel-good number that rides a lazy horse straight through to the end, and “Christmas With You,” Vox’s ode to the holiday season that doesn’t ask Santa for a thing. This girl just wants a little warm loving in the bitter cold of winter!
Victoria Vox and Her Jumpling Flea will officially be released on February 7, 2006 on Obus Music.

Wonderful CD
author: NancyI love this CD and played it repeatedly while on a road trip. Great songs, music and Ms. Vox has a lovely voice.
One of the best CDs I have ever bought... EVER
author: Joshuaseriously... if I could give this CD 6 stars I would have. Victoria Vox is amazing. She plays classic folk music and modern remakes. She has a style not found by any other musician today. I recomend listening to her interview on NPR (national public radio). It is very interesting to hear her story and inspiration for songs. Fav song: Psyco Killer!
CD Happiness
author: AnnieI love this CD -- the voice, the songs, and especially the ukulele. It's happy music that makes me want to smile and brightens up my day. I play it ALL the time and I've not tired of it yet! :-)
Sweet singing, great ukelele playing, nice tunes
author: John O'ConnorThis lady can SING!! A sweet voice and she obviously enjoys singing as well. The uke playing is excellent, too. Good tunes, well performed. This is a CD to play when you are feeling down to bring you up, or when you are up to stay up. Well worth the price.
Wonderful singing, great songs, sexy lady
author: New face, new voiceHere is a lady who obviously enjoys singing, no matter what the song, and that joy comes through in everything she does. The ukulele playing is nice, but it's the voice that makes this set. Victoria is by turns sexy, cute, sweet and raucus, and she carries all of it off with a greast sense of humor and drama. This CD is much more than worth the price. A wonderful talent, good songs, and just plain good music
amazing versatility
author: RandyOBallads, jazzy stuff, a sexy rock tune, even a scratchy-record type crooner and "Psycho Killer" (!) ... she really knows how to do it, and with a ukelele! Get this one.
Fan F'in Tastic
author: Rob AHeard about this album on the NPR interview. Gotta say, it is totally worth it. One of my new favorites, and on high rotation in the queue. A must have if things are less than ordinary in your musical world.
All the songs on this CD are great
author: MarjThe songs in the CD are a mix of beautiful, funny, sweet and elegant. Victoria Vox sings these songs with a voice that is fresh and and pure along the caliber of Eva Cassidy. Her cover of Bruddah Iz's Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World and her song America bring tears to my eyes but her cover of Talking Head's Psycho Killer brings back a big smile. I love this CD. Every song is great and I am tempted to buy copies for my friends for Christmas cause I know they'd all really enjoy this CD. Last time I instantly liked an artist like this it was Norah Jones. Keep em coming Victoria!
