notes

The Chris Vestre Group is a quartet with vibes, bass, drums and guitar. Chris writes original tunes that groove, swing, bossa and freak out. An 8-month stint at a local club fomented the current lineup of Chris Maresh (bass), Aaron Lack (vibes) and Jon Greene (drums) and the group continues to grow together along with Chris's compositional skills.

"Jazz Camp" was recorded in a single day in July of 2004 and features original tunes that range from abstract to groovy.

Chris resides in Austin, Texas.

As a 16 Grammy Guitarist, and Jazz player as well,I have become 'TIRED' of Jazz-ack-(the media's version of Jazz=muzak.)Jazz was never intended to be boring or repitious.Chris Vestre and his band bring that point home with the feel, and sounds he created for us to savour. This is a MUST BUY!Carmine D'Amico

  • Just what the Doc order; guitar jazz! Loved the vibes.

I was looking for something different than the mainstream jazz that you hear today. I stop listening to jazz on the radio because it became boring.....same silking, smooth jazz. I wanted to hear something new. A new approach. But it had to have a lead guitar. I found what I was looking for in this CD. I look forward to more.

  • I enjoy the CD

I enjoy listening to the CD. It is lighthearted, fast, "uptempo," and delightful. It has a lot of riffs, subtleties, melodies and sophisticated explorations of sound. It is good, fun jazz.

  • I really loved it!

This will be your new favorite! Chris Vestre is a makes-it-look-so-easy guitarist and a brilliant writer. Some of these songs make you want to dance...some make you want to get all dressed up...still others make you think that you are an international spy. Get one for you, and one for someone that you want to think you are cool. It'll work.

Dancing from a defiant kind of hip, jazz rock with fat, thunking, insistent bass lines intent on getting you moving to slow, supple ballads, stretched out through long guitar lines and echoing vibraphone, The Chris Vestre Group carves out a beautiful and diverse collection of original, modern jazz tracks, drawing from soul, funk, blues and rock to give these tunes a modern, day-to-day approachability. This is groove jazz that doesn't cut corners on the jazz element to get to the groove. With each member playing his part, playing as whole ensemble even through the individual shining, this group has a crisp, unprocessed sound you can sink into.
