notes
Jazayer, founded in 1973 by Vince Delgado, Mimi Spencer and Devi-ja Delgado, performs important works of Middle Eastern music in a manner both artistic and authentic. Initially focusing on Arabic music, Jazayer soon reached out to include music of Greekl, Turksih, and Armenian orgin in their repertoire.
All the pieces in this album were composed by Vince Delgado in the Middle Eastern style, arranged by Jazayer, and embellished with taqasim improvised by the musicians in the traditional Middle Eastern manner.
Jazayer has six previously published recordings: Jazayer, Jazayer Plus Ali Jihad Racy, and Volumes I - IV of Eternal Rhythms of the Middle East.
Hijaz and Bayyatt(i) are the names of two maqam-s (melodic scales) of traditional Arabic and Turksih music.
