notes

Vanessa Lively was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up between there and the Texas/Mexican border. She began her artistic career as an oil painter, selling and displaying her work in the San Antonio area. More recently however, music has been her new form of expression. With lyrics as her paintbrush and a guitar as the canvas, Vanessa's music subtly demands attention from its listeners.
At the age of 16, she was performing in "Bucketfunk," a local San Antonio band, and later was the lead singer in a Greek/gypsy band, "E Serenes." It was during this time that she married her husband Jason Lively. Since then she has traveled the world, worked as a migrant farm laborer and lived in South America. All of these life experiences lend an authentic veracity to her powerful lyrics.

Vanessa's recent release, Let Me Rise, is a testament to this authenticity. Driven by her distinctive arrhythmic guitar picking and unique voice, Let Me Rise features musicians from four countries contributing their creativity to Vanessa's songs. Her new album takes an honest look at the nature of struggle and acceptance in our lives and in our world. Pick up a copy today to hear for yourself!

  • Let Her Rise!
    author: Kelli King

Vanessa Lively's CD, Let Me Rise, is must have music. Not only is it a great debut from an up and coming singer/songwriter, but is a fearless musical portrait of people and places rarely visited. Lively takes you along her personal journey with musicians from all over the world. Recorded in Quito, Ecuador by Pablo Arias, it also features her husband, Jason Lively, on the Charango. You will be glad you bought this cd and you make the world a better place when you support music like this. Leaving Salinas and Let Me Rise, the title track, are two of my favs. Happy listening, people.
