Petite Powerhouse, jazz flautist Valarie King comes to play! Her debut solo release, Today, Tomorrow and Forever hits you head-on...no slick synthetics, overdubs or retakes...just raw talent and energy recorded LIVE IN CONCERT!
From the moment Valarie King takes the stage to the last standing ovation, she is in total control. Surrounded by virtuoso musicians Greg Cook and Clarence McDonald on keyboards, Robert Russell on bass, Louis Russell on guitar, Peter Buck on drums and Ricardo Pasillas percussion, every song from the sensual to the Picante sizzles! This 11-tune sizzling disc features a mix of original compositions, classic smooth jazz and pop hits...executed with flawless delivery and impeccable articulation and was nominated for a 47th Annual Grammy Award in the Best New Contemporary Jazz Album category, 2005
“The lovely Ms. King turns in a brilliant performance that stirs up memories of such great female flautists as Sherry Winston, Bobby Humphrey and the essence of her mentor, the great Hubert Laws,” says Paula Edelstein of Sounds of Timeless Jazz web magazine.
The classic Where is the Love takes on a funky, steamy groove followed by the high-steppin, energetic Low Lights into a sizzling hot percussion interlude on Con un Beso, featuring its composer Ricardo Pasillas. As the romantic, honey-dipped melody of Chorale, an original penned by King and keyboardist Greg Cook, drifts through the air, the purity of her tone quality is striking - the notes caress and woo your senses. On Janet Jackson’s Anytime, Anyplace, the simple beauty of the melody, originally buried in the vocal version, is masterfully liberated. By the time the band reached the final notes of the gritty, funky Marcus Miller hit Panther, the crowd was on its feet.
Valarie King is one of the most talented Jazz flautists in the music business today. If you have listened to the recordings of Madonna, Nina Simone, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, George Benson, Natalie Cole or Grover Washington, Jr., you have heard Valarie’s amazing flute work. She has performed with The San Francisco Ballet, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and Pacific Symphony, appeared on multiple Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, American Music and Billboard Awards shows and in concert with Hubert Laws, Luther Vandross, Diana Krall and Stevie Wonder.
Valarie’s recording and performance credits span every genre of music from Classical to Pop, R & B, Folk and Jazz and she is called upon by some of the best film composers and producers in the music business today to put her dynamic flute signature on their recording projects
With credentials like these there is no doubt that this extraordinarily talented artist should be stepping out into the spotlight for the world to embrace? Not only is she an outstanding performer and composer, she lives and breathes her music, in her attitude, in each note she plays and from the incredible positive energy that she radiates. When you hear her play you will understand completely!
“The moment Valarie King walks in a room, her smile, grace and charm puts you in an immediate comfort zone. The same feeling occurs when you listen to her music. The new CD, Today, Tomorrow and Forever is a wonderful presentation of Valarie unleashing her absolute passion through her music. The cohesive nature between this fine recording artist and her musicians if flawless and musically nourishing to the ear. Congratulations on a superb effort.”
-Gerald Albright
“I have witnessed Valarie’s progress over the years and have come to respect and admire her artistry. It is no small task to come from the classical idiom and become a proficient improviser in the world of jazz. She has done this most impressively.”
-Hubert Laws
“Valarie’s great musicianship and spirit shines brightly. Her love for playing music is evident!!”
-Patrice Rushen

In this day and age live performances are key to an artist. Well, this is a good one especially the Marcus Miller tune PANTHER she slams it!
An Outstanding New Voice on the Flute Has Arrived!
author: Robert RussellValarie King is an exciting new voice for Jazz flute - the first, really, since Hubert Laws to expand the vocabulary of the flute in this genre. This collection contains a number of great interpretations; I particularly enjoy Valarie's treatment of Anytime, Any Place, as well as the energetic Panther. This CD is a great addition to the world of soulful Jazz.
