notes
VAGABOND OPERA, a unique ensemble, plays Eastern-European, klezmer-based original, jazz and belly dance music with skill, exuberance, and a gritty vagabond edge. Eric Stern, operatic tenor, accordionist, pianist, and composer leads the band (accordion and vocals, saxophone, oboe, upright bass, percussion) as they play songs about thieves, Jewish weddings, Parisian tramps and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. Every show is a cabaret of rich musical phrasing, sparkling lyrics and indomitable stage presence.
In two years of performance in the Northwest VAGABOND OPERA has built a dedicated following, the eclecticism of its music and mastery of genres luring audiences and creating fans. The Willamette Week called VAGABOND OPERA "...a six piece of alienated classicists and romantic bohemians. Gypsy music, opera, klezmer and cabaret come-ons mingle like emigres trading aliases at an after-hours night club. It's highly cultured."

Get On The Train
author: james f carneyGreat Music, Lots Of Fun. Enjoyed It Emensly.
excellent instrumentalism is recognizable upom first listening of any of pieces
author: Andrea Kirsten Ellefsonthis klezmer style of music and eastern european music you play for a living, is as close to the real anything as anybody,s ever gonna get. of course, when a band masters the authenticity of this music the way you have, it can only be done, by playing from the heart.the integrity of this music is necessary for my survival.your excellent quality of music, makes a person want to wake up to life everyday. The band must stay together and continue to help people.
Just fabulous...love it!!!!!
author: Jackie GarciaGreat music...very different and enjoyable. My daughter is a dance teacher and she has many ideas for the songs.
