Release Date: November 12th, 2002
Urban Sun's debut release recorded at Pachyderm studios, located in Cannon Falls, MN a somewhat sleepy town situated about an hour South of the Twin Cities. The studio enjoyed the national spotlight in the mid-nineties after producing a number of landmark albums including Nirvana's "In Utero". "The Sound Situation" was captured in just three days and is anything but sleepy. The fast pace of the session is evident in the 13 song collection of fresh energetic performances. The record was actually recorded twice after the original sessions were lost when lightning from a passing storm caused some technical failures just as the record was wrapping up. Two weeks later the band regrouped and recorded the material for a second time, the band's familiarity with the process yielded time to record an extra song, the blistering "My Flavor" that closes the album.
The record introduces the world to Urban Sun, two pairs of brothers who met in 2001 upon discovering their common admiration of The Beatles' vast catalog of pop rock genius. A year of rehearsal yielded roughly 25 original compositions, half of which were chosen to represent the band on "The Sound Situation". The album was self-produced by the band along with producer/engineer Jeff "the Captain" McCusker.
