notes
Unknown Prophets is a Twin Cities based hip hop group consisting of Big Jess (MC/Producer), MaD SoN (MC), and Willy Lose (DJ). Their classic debut album, "World Premier" (2000), introduced them to the underground hip hop scene. World Premier featured an array of hard hitting, classical influenced tracks along with appearances by local greats Slug, DJ Abilities and Brother Ali.
By 2002 Unknown Prophets had established themselves as one of the top hip hop artists from the Twin Cities. They had been featured in the May 2001 issue of Interview Magazine, received rave reviews from numerous critics and had been increasing their fan base with each step. In February of 2002 they released their highly anticipated sophomore LP, "Now You Know." The release party resulted in two sold out shows at the 7th Street Entry/ First Avenue in downtown Minneapolis. Now You Know showcased a more soulful side of Big Jess' production skills along with a definite maturity in lyrics. NYK also featured three of underground hip hop's most respected wordsmiths, Eyedea and Musab of RSE and manCHILD of Mars ILL. NYK was considered one of the most versatile releases of 2002 and the joint "Sorry" was said to be one of underground hip hops most sincere and mature songs ever recorded.

author: Opprobious DonThis album is pefectly put together, Every track has such a hard feeling to it. Straight Murderous from the underground... These Profitz have a technique that can't be matched by any "Rappers"...They show you what 'The Underground' is all about.
NICE rhymes !

If any of the following catch your eye- The Roots, Wu-Tang, Fugees and Outkast- this is the album to cop. With ingenius use of beats and addictive grooves, unheard samples, excessive musicality and the utmost lyrical flow, these boys deliver a new, more personable brand of alternative hip hop for fans who want a deeper feel to their music. Hailin' from the Midwest, they bring the full spectrum of esoteric hip hop color to the stage with track after track of beatin', bangin', pulsin' kickers you can jive to.
#2 iz lyrically blessed

Great Vision, Great Lyrics
author: Charles C. RaiffOkay, now here is one of those albums that smack you in the face. I was overly impressed by The W.E.T. ep. If anyone enjoys good hip-hop, you should try it out. From good old' Sh*t talking to truly in-depth lyrics, the W.E.T. ep, and the Unknown Prophets, truly will add to any collection. Personally, I recommend Just Like You (track 7), a true journey into indy hip-hop.
