Original 21st century blues and beyond.

notes

The goal of Union Street Blues is to bring our listeners the best of original contemporary blues and beyond. We build our sound on a powerful rhythm section, creative and accomplished instrumentation, and solid vocal performances. Our original songs speak to today's contemporary listeners and the types of situations in which we all find ourselves today. We also cover selected songs from other artists but we never select songs to be nostalgic. Rather, we select them because they are great songs that we deliver with the same power and energy as our original music. Blues is our home base but we aren't shy about venturing into adjacent genres such as rock, funk, and jazz as long as it's great music that we enjoy playing.

"By Any Means Necessary" is our debut CD. It includes 12 great original songs about blues in the 21st century and embraces a number of blues styles -- from Jump to Chicago to Delta (and even a little Latin).

Union Street Blues features Buddy Cleveland on harmonica and vocals, Neil "Porkroll" Taylor on lead guitar, Steve Cocchi on keyboards and guitar, Ted Ryan on bass, Matt Del Collo on drums and percussion, and Paul Cleveland on tenor saxophone. "By Any Means Necessary" includes a number of tracks featuring the Union Street Horns -- Dave Renz on alto saxophone, Joe Anderson on trumpet, and Steven Sharpe on trombone.

A fine, creative premiere album for this band of musical big shots. Always amusing and solid musically, these guys may look like a bunch of dorks, but they can really play. Buddy Cleveland is an extraordinary song writer and harpist. If you already have Cleveland's work on the seminal Voodoo Deville "Motorvator" CD, this is a great choice for your collection. Thanks Buddy for showing us that pudgy senior citizens can really rock.

Great CD. I particularly liked "I May Be Slow". The instrumentals were great as well. I throughly enjoyed the whole CD. Thanks for some great music.

  • You Gotta Buy This CD
    author: Bluesman Tom Malafarina

You have got to buy this CD! I can’t say it any simpler than that. Great original blues and incredible musicianship. What else do you need? What are you waiting for? I have had the honor at one time or another of sharing a stage with 5 of the 6 outstanding musicians in this band. And although I have never had the pleasure of meeting Ted Ryan, the bass player, he has won my respect as a fellow bass player with his outstanding performance. Buddy Cleveland’s harp, vocals and songwriting shines through in this CD. Neil “Porkroll” Taylor’s guitar work and Steve Steve Cocchi’s keyboards are a vital element of the songs on this CD. Matt Del Collo is hands down one of the best drummers to come out of Berks County and Paul Cleveland’s sax work is exceptional as always. (And at such a young age). And I should mention the great production work by Buddy and Neil. Great work guys. You have something to be proud of. Hope to hear you live sometime. Keep it up.
