RECOMMENDATIONS FOR USE & ENJOYMENT

1. Understand, and possibly, remember: The Understudy is 23 year old Lucy Hearn, a singer and songwriter from Newcastle, NSW. She plays guitar, bashes the keyboard and sometimes destroys a harmonica.

2. Think of what you were doing nearly two years ago. 2005 sent Lucy to the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. Here she found herself in a house filled with old loves and new mistakes. Her disc, Every Old Hymn, is what happens when secret, cherished ideas collide with open air for the first time.

3. Listen to the powers that be. Recently, Reverb Street Press described an Understudy show as "The highlight of the evening... folk/pop at its finest". In May 2007, The Understudy was featured in Triple J Unearthed's Artists Spotlight. Tracks from Every Old Hymn have been played on community radio around the country, including Newcastle's 2NUR, ABC Newcastle and Brisbane's 4ZzZ.

4. Dancing to Every Old Hymn* requires stepping like a brolga, or a donkey, or a street sweep but this does not mean you should not dance.

5. Think of what you are doing now. After months upon months of silly mistakes and technical faults, Every Old Hymn exists as a concrete entity. Of course by now there are new songs, but the old ones are still nice.

6. And if you're curious about the new ones consider this: July 2007 will send Lucy back to the Finger Lakes to record a slew of new songs for her debut LP, due for release September/October 2007.
