Hello all, this is Billy Tsounis aka Frenchie Euro Smoothie,(guitarist)for the Uncle Max's Cosmic Band thing here.
UMCB is /was Alex Mitchell(vocals)Fred Mett,(bass)Dave Goldstein(keyboards)John Bush(drums)and Billy Tsounis(guitar)
The band was put together in 1994 by Alex after his time in the band Circus of Power and is named after Alex's uncle who is supposedly located somewhere in some trailer park in Florida.
Uncle Max's Cosmic Band is the super daddy of some way cool hard rock/punk/blues music that started on a lovely little 4-track machine,to the studio,live , and now roams around in your psychedelic jungle.
Inspired by UFO's,sex,jackpots,magick,trash culture,the twisted,latex,meat,tobacco,tv, and the wide open spaces to name a few, it inspires the raw,dirty and trippy cosmikness indeed.

In 2004 Alex and Billy formed a new band called FAT NANCY which will be releasing it's debut cd,Pure American Muscle,Baby, summer 2005.

    Great to hear some good old rock and roll, it's about time! It's been far too long since a great CD was put out! This is a fantastic CD and highly recommended.

    Alex Mitchell hasn't entered my musical universe since about 1992 with COP. But an old friend alerted me to his re-emergence in various new projects. I currently have only heard Uncle Max but I'd say it's f**king quality! The music evokes americana and freedom... like COP did. Yet this sound is as raw as an aligator's tail and dirtier than Alabama whore's memoirs. excuse the southern referencing but this sound is sweaty, greasy and soaked in binged decedence. Turn it up loud and crack open some beer for this cd. Alex Mitchell we salute you!

    Alex Mitchell is one of the most talented singer/songwriters in the world. Circus of Power is one of the Best bands of all time. Now, Alex has done it again with UMCB. Once again, another masterpiece for Alex & his band. Definatley a must have for anyone who enjoys & respects really good music. Alex has also formed Fat Nancy & Plastic Gator Machine. Again, Alex is a geneous & a rock god!! Buy This CD.. And ALL of his others. You'll be blown away when you do. Trust Me.

    I already have Plastic Gator Machine's CD, previously available here, and this CD is just a grander extension of the great Alex Mitchell's influence on real rock and roll! I'll admit there are some songs that may take a few listens to "get," but trust me it is worth it! Where a lot of what's out today has maybe 3 or 4 good tracks with a bunch of filler crap, this is solid through and through, and even now as Fat Nancy, deserves to be heard! SPREAD THE WORD, SPREAD THE LOVE!

    I enjoyed this CD from the first listen and it keeps growing on me. I'm not sure if it's the birth of "Fat Nancy" or more of a collection of demos & outtakes that will become the new project. There's even a song from Alex Mitchell's first solo CD repeated here. A very unique swirl of psychedelic rockers. (love the James Brown tune!) Mitchell's vocals range from familiar territory to new ground..very interesting, very cool...very infectious!

    Got my copy yesterday and I have been listening to it nonstop. My favourite track is Letters From The Inside. Other standout tracks are Auntie Ray´s Box Of Magic, Green River Death Boogie and Gasoline Rainbows. The whole cd is very good and it´s wonderful to her from Alex again ! Final words: Great cd ! Crank it !

    just when you think rock n roll is dead, along comes an interesting, ecclectic album like "Licking the Toad....". As a long time of fan of Alex's i was pumped up to hear he had a new cd out so i bought it sound unheard. From the opening song, "Sweet Teenage Facination" I knew i was in for a ride (that one song is like a Type O Negative meets the Clash type of thing), the lyrics are great throughout the disc, it rocks from beginning to end. I would say after a solid week of listening to it that "Letters From The Inside", "James Brown Band", and "Lady Belladonna" are the standouts for me. Now don't be a jackass, buy this cd, rock n roll is still alive.

    Uncle Max's Cosmic Band: Licking the toad in the black church is among the better CD's I've purchased in some time. From the first 3 tracks' Deep Purple meets Circus of Power vibe on throgh to the more familiar sounds of Alex Mitchell & Co's excellent swamp rawk music, there is not much room here for disappointment. I highly recommend purchasing this CD - perhaps some heavy sales will get another release from this fine new band moving. Put me in line for the next one. ****

    I love the fact Alex Mitchell is back where he belongs. At the microphone singing his a$$ off! He is my favorite singer. I'd enjoy listening to Alex sing Elvis songs while in the shower, but he won't let me! These songs are fun with a touch of Rolling Stones attached. He also includes one song from the Plastic Gator Machine (cool!). The disc is part COP, part Stones, part Stoner rock or space rock. Very hard to put your finger on it, but it is very pleasant to the ears. The band is very good and although most of the songs were done in one take, the musicianship is top notch.

    When this CD came to me, after the first listening I was really surprised. It's a new kind of music conception, the union of Mitchell-Tsounins is incredible, explosive ... IMPRESSIVE!!!). I like all the CD, but my favourite are "Letters From The Inside", "21st Century Dino Man", "Loud N' Proud" and "Green River Death Boogie (fantastic)". Alex confirms, he's a genius, a great singer. A true artist. And Billy is an impressive guitarist, he has really surprised me. Fantastic. Do yourself a favour, buy this CD. Great. Be well, Carlo.

    Is there anything in this world that Alex does that I dislike? Impossible! This album is a MUST have for any Hard Rock/Punk/Metal maniac! Groovy tunes for cruising and unforgetable psychadelic vocals! I just wish there were a dozen more releases! Bury me with this album so I may rest at peace!     The more I listen to this CD the more I like it. It is definitly different from anything I have heard in a long time. Billy and Alex write some cosmic,fresh, and new music which will take you away to another time and place. It is definitly positively psychedelic. This CD grows on you. Buy this CD, you will love it. Play it LOUD AND PROUD!
