Moving vocals, poetic lyric and classic storytelling are a few of the silver linings within Tyler Stenson’s sixth full length album See That Gleam.

In this unique twelve track journey through the years and continents under the sun, Stenson's tightly crafted storytelling will feed the soul and offer a calming sweetness and gleam to anyone seeking human emotion and grace.

---------

Born in Lander, WY Tyler Stenson (28) considers himself a cowboy. Now Portland based, he humbly writes of those days as if a Midwestern Poet; blending the old countryside with the new cityscape and delivering his elegant songs from the heart, simple and true.

Twice named Portland's Performing Songwriter of the Year (2007 & 2008) and boasting a host of other professional acknowledgments, Stenson’s poignant sound is putting lumps in throats and attracting a train of followers that find a piece of themselves in the sincerity of his words and the authenticity of his performances.

Former songwriter and front-man for his bands Rhetoric Tuesday and Lander, Stenson can now be found returning to his folk roots where lyrics are king. Combining his soothing vocals, understated elegance, contagious melody and classic storytelling, Stenson has set out to brave the national scene and create something powerfully timeless with his signature sound.

  • If ears could have orgasms...

...this would do it. Tyler has an amazing talent. From the articulate descriptions that take you there to the passion and emotion that will overcome you, every song on this album will move you in one way or another. True artists are few and far between and Tyler demonstrates what that really means. There's no doubt that he's going places, if not around the world, at least deep into our hearts.

I was at this release party and had the opportunity to see Tyler perform live...which is a treat if you haven't yet. This whole album is a gem...he covers so many different subjects...family, love, youth, nature... in Babysitting the Cowboy you can taste the lyrics... Cellophane wildly wraps you in a love story...the imagery is as clear and crisp.. ....all of it's good. it's fresh. it's infectious. I highly recommend taking a moment and having a listen... it's not everyday you find something that soothes the soul...

Just like I told Tyler, I love this CD in the car! His mellow yet heart clenching tunes grab me most when I am driving. The music has so much feeling in it. The last time I was driving home from Eugene to Portland after a full belly of Thanksgiving this CD captured those moments perfectly. I luv it!

  • Versatile, accessible, endearing.
    author: Aerynn

The title for this review lists three words that popped into my head when trying to describe Cellophane, by Tyler Stenson. Versatile: Some albums are more suited to be played in the car; some while working; some while cooking. Some with company or without; when feeling excited or a bit bummed. I bought this CD a few months ago, and have enjoyed its ability to flex into many spaces in my life. I can listen to it when pretty much anybody is at my house without fear of turning them off. Accessible: Although the lyrics are very rich and full of stories and metaphors (as any good song ought to be), they are accessible through our common American experience, as well as the delicate simplicity of the chord sequences and melodies. Endearing: The more I listen to this album, the more I like it. My favourite song on the album is probably a tie between 'Big Hearts' and 'Better Be Us All'. Support independent musicians!
