notes

Guitar, keyboard, percussion, vocals--is there anything musical beyond his grasp? The name Tyler Ramsey has become synonymous with awe-inspiring talent, taste, wit, and style.

After his own jazzy funky instrumental trio ran its course in the late '90s, Ramsey became renowned as a sideman and perennial winner of best-local-musician polls around Asheville, North Carolina. Ramsey has contributed his instrumental prowess to numerous bands, including DrugMoney, Robot, Wayne Robbins & The Hellsayers, Hollywood Red, Jr. James & The Late Guitar, and others.

Now, Ramsey is stepping out front. Solo, he crafts intricate, finger-style guitar sounds reminiscent of John Fahey and Leo Kottke, but with a sum effect that is all Ramsey's own. Blues, ragtime, experimental folk--Ramsey is a composer of intricate, ethereal songs of melancholy and rumination. Musically and lyrically, every song on Ramsey's disc is fully realized and exquisitely crafted.

The disc was recorded and mixed by Brian Landrum and mastered by Steven Heller. Cover art is original work by Tyler Ramsey!

Great artist. Great album. I actually prefer this to "Band of Horse".

  • Just wait!

I first came across Tyler Ramsey at a concert a few weeks back. He was opening for Band of Horses. I was blown away by his effortless talent and unflinching vocal skills. His music has the ability to take you out of the city to a place where you can see the stars. This album is a defenite must as will be his new release in 2008. If you think these are good songs, just wait till you hear his new music. Happy Listening!

I saw him open for Band of Horses. My friends and I were floored. We couldn't stop smiling throughout his set. This guy shows some really amazing guitar work. He uses both his voice and guitar instrumentation to tell a story.

  • Why Is This Guy Not Famous
    author: Carl Granados

This is one undiscovered superstar. The music is awesome, the style is very original, and the playing is inspired. For those of us who like thier folk with lyrics that are not simplistic, with bands that are more than a guitar, a voice that while gritty is also just right, and with music that makes you feel something special inside... this is it.

  • amazing post modern acoustic folk

The simplicity is the beauty of this gentle but passionate CD from Asheville's Tyler Ramsey. Known around here a few years ago as keyboardist for the ambient - funk trio Mr. Ramsey's latest direction and this amazing new self-produced CD is in the post modern acoustic folk direction. Dreamy laconic vocal tunes intermingled with really cool instrumentals. Sort of Nick Drake meets Iron & Wine at Leo Kottke's house. Ramsey plays guitar, keyboards, lap steel, bass and sings and did the artwork. While Brian Landrum added drums and percussion and engineered. I'm hooked, I can't stop playing this un. Expect an instore gig in the cafe very soon. Meanwhile buy this CD and enjoy.
