"Training Butterflies is a perfect morning companion. This all-acoustic photo album is like a sweet glorious dream. True Folk. Fans of - say, early Judy Collins or Joni Mitchell, will sense this purity. It's all here." - Chris Dargas, Budo Magazine

notes

How did Mary Sue ever get started on her muisc career? Completely through the back door. After years of sitting on her balcony, writing songs lifted up only to the night summer sky, someone actually heard one of her songs. And wanted to record it. And then wanted to record another song. Soon Mary Sue was left standing with a 100 tapes of 8 original songs and no clue of what to do with them. 1996.

Fast Forward. Mary Sue Twohy's smooth vocals dancing above subtle, expressive guitar garnered her a 2000, 2001 nominations for Contemporary Female Folk vocalist, Contemporary Folk Recording, and Song of the Year and 1999 Best New Artist Award from the Washington Area Music Association. Azalea City Recordings, Carroll Street presents The Risk Involved, Mary Sue's second recording effort, produced by Pete and Maura Kennedy. Training Butterflies, Mary Sue's debut, was produced by Pete Kennedy. Both CDs have gone to 2nd pressing.

"Mary Sue Twohy is a gentle, but compelling singer..." Sing Out! Folk Song Magazine 2002

"If anything Twohy's soprano has only grown more appealing and expressive in the interim, and the choice of tunes this time around consistently serve her well"Mike Joyce, The Washington Post, 2001

"As far as the Goose-Bump meter goes, Mary Sue Twohy is up there with Nanci Griffith, Sarah McLachlan, Iris Dement." Dave Richards, The Morning News, 2000
