notes

Two Gun Man is an up-and-coming roots rock outfit straight out of Upstate New York. I first met the Two Gun Man team out in Great Barrington, where they closed out Club Helsinki for the Wood Brothers. I have seen a lot of music in my days and when I see something good, I want to see it again.

Let me try and explain the way of the Two Gun Man.

Front man Reid Waring handles lead vocals for the band demonstrating exceptional song-writing capacities, carrying them off with a Morrissey-like delivery keeping songs catchy, yet original. Bassist Mr. J. Miesmer, never content to simply keep the rhythm, shows incredible skill on the bass and provides perfect contrast to Reid’s deep, brooding vocals. Lead guitarist Dr. Josh Watson jumps at every chance possible to lay down a glorious fill, adding tremendous depth and texture to each luscious track. And lastly, the multi-faceted Julian Seidenberg on drums who draws on numerous styles which aids not merely in keeping time, but also in adding an edgy personality to each individual song.

To be honest, one could never truly pin down Two Gun Man according to a specific genre, as they are a confluence of so many different styles. But if one were to take a stab at it, you could say that they are the perfect cross between Brit-Pop and Americana. Although, with inspiration coming from all points on the globe, from Rock and Hip-Hop, Folk to Funk, one would only be scratching the surface. Rather, it may be best to imagine this band’s stylings than to explain it. Just imagine being the coolest pioneer ever to wander out to the Grand Canyon, and you just happened to bring your guitar along with you. You wear your emotions on your sleeve and your love of the land is boundless. Now we’re getting somewhere, but only to the beginning because this band is only starting out and their potential is as wide as the Rockies.
