notes
Dennis was born in Chadron, Nebraska and spent summers growing up on a cattle ranch in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. He moved to New York City in 1959 and spent 20 years there.
Teaching guitar at the New York College of Music, Metropolitian Music School, Brooklyn Music School, Henry Street Settlement, and Jersey City State College kept him busy as he studied guitar with Albert Blain and attended master classes of Jose Tomas and Narcisco Yepes.
In 1979 he moved to upstate New York where he teaches at the State University College at Oneonta and at Hartwick College.
He is an active performer on the classical guitar, both in jazz and classical styles of music. As a composer he is entirely self taught.

Turechek plays Turechek
author: Art DesimineAn interesting set of challenging music played with superb tone and technique. As a former student of Dennis' it's wonderful to hear his music again.
"Quirky charm--striking ideas--remarkable achievement on a guitar"
author: Classical Guitar --october 2000This disk has a quirky charm. Some of his ideas are quite striking, particularly in the Suite in G sharp minor. The Fugue in C major is in four parts--clearly a remarkable achievement on a guitar---,It does epitomize one feature of Turechek's style, which is a liking for a rather dense contrapuntal texture. The four studies hold rather more appeal. I can imagine a couple of them going down well in a concert---."
Excellent music, timeless and innovative
author: Allan HarringtonNice use of tone coloring and counterpoint to bring the listnener on a delightful journey. Even though much of this material was written in the 70's it is still relevant and cutting edge, I hope young players and writers are paying attention!
