"2 AM in the Tunnel of Love" is the second batch of cranky thrills from Jeff Wagner, a.k.a. the Tunnel of Love. (The eponymous, first EP was sold at performances of the 2002 play "Circus Proboscis", for which Wagner wrote 3 songs.)

"2 AM..."'s 3-minute tales alternate between spooky atmospherics and primal, skeletal rants, all laced with vibrating organs and guitars. The result is the kind of raw personality found in '40s film noir, '50s B-movies, '60s girl-groups, and '80s goth.

Wagner was the singer-bassist for Sharking Teeth and Jumpknuckle, bands who drew comparisons to the Stooges and "a swarm of bees", respectively.

  • Electric carnival mayhem

    It's hard to put a muzzle around the snapping jaws of this slathering, frothy, beast of an album. From the crazed off-kilter carnival keyboards to the intense nightmare vocals, 2AM in the Tunnel of Love will carry you kicking and screaming through the back alleys of wiggling film noire funhouse where the cackling, leering faces always keep you on your toes. The songs melt into one another seamlessly and the overall mood and energy is never lost or diluted. With elements vaguely reminiscent of THE CRAMPS, 60s beach bands, and carrousel music one would think that the resulting sound might seem campy or unoriginal, but the album is so compellingly unique that it will leave you wondering why TUNNEL OF LOVE isn't a household name yet.
