notes

Melody. Harmony. Craftmanship!! These are the things that are missing from modern pop music. Fortunately, Tripsitter are here to change all that. With their blending of classic and modern rock styles, Tripsitter brings back the notion of music as something more than a disposable fashion plate.

At the core of this piano and bass driven band are Jeff and Jon Celentano. This songwriting duo present their plans of "world domination through music" over the course of eight tracks on their debut album. If you can imagine a band that is part Brian Wilson, part Ben Folds and part something as yet undefined, then you can start to grasp what the brothers C are up to.

But don't take our word for it. Like Laurie Anderson said, "Writing about music is like dancing about architechture". Check them out for yourself!!!

All copies of the album purchased from cdbaby come with a free TRIPSITTER temporary tattoo!!! Hours of fun for the whole family!

this cd is awesome... reminds me of the beach boys with a cool new ecclectic feel to it... great cd.

  • "...a combination of the Beach Boys with Queen..."
    author: Dan Smith

Tripsitter started their set out with a They Might be Giants tribute, done surprisingly well! I had “Kiss Me, Son of God” in my head for the next few days. The five members of the band are in essence the combination of the Beach Boys with Queen. I have to acknowledge Jared’s chops, his guitar playing is very intense and passionate. The band played mostly original music and some Beach Boy b-sides that they may have well as written, as the crowd did not know them. Overall a grand show.

  • Ma plus grande émotion musicale de l'année 2003 !
    author: Wilan

I hope Tripsitter will realize very soon a second and full CD in the same vein ! About this band, the best thing I can say is,like Dave Edmunds in his song, that they have "Beach Boys blood in their veins" ! Definitively, the best new album and band of 2003 ! Not five stars rating but TEN !

  • This is a great album
    author: Richard Snow

Tripsitter are that rare thing in modern music. A band that can do beautiful vocal harmonies. They don't slack on the backing either. Most the songs are driven by some excellent piano playing, in what i would describe as Ben Folds in style. Then there is the writing, great melodies and these fellas sure know there chords. Listen to Wavestrumental. Great stuff.

  • Lay back and smile at the sun!
    author: Talana Bell

When I first heard Tripsitter’s perfect blend of musical intelligence and soothing harmonies, I immediately experienced a positive energy that had me hooked and craving more. I highly recommend this album to everyone who can appreciate true melodic knowledge and imagination. If you’ve never been to California don’t worry, you can experience it in your own living room thanks to Tripsitter’s ability to capture the west coast in every song that is played.

  • Une vraie merveille
    author: Charlie Dontsurf

While listening to this CD, one gets the feeling of cruising down the street with the top down after a hard day's work knowing full well that life is wonderful and it's great to live in California!

  • The best band in Vegas - Tripsitter
    author: Brian Gary

After I saw Tripsitter (see review below) I gave this CD a listen. I loved everything I heard on it. The arrangements were fantastic. Admittedly, this is not the same band that I saw on stage. This record is will compliment any part of your day, while their on stage performance will get you ready for a night on the town. Your adrenaline may never come down after the show. Simply just an amazing and very multi-faceted band.------- -------MY SHOW REVIEW I've been a huge Brian Wilson fan all my life, so when I heard there was a local band in Vegas inspired by him, I had to check it out. I came in with some reservations about it. Who knows what hype to believe these days. This time, the hype was TRUE! They were playing at the Palms Hotel on a night called "Wired" showcasing original bands. They opened the show with their guitarist pulling off one of the best Dick Dale intros I have ever heard, then busted into one of their original tunes. Their two singers (who I have found out are brothers) are equally fine with their vocals. The thing is, everyone in this band sings. Their harmonies ARE worthy of Brian Wilson. And with a front man who literally attacks the piano (a kick-ass piano at that) with a vengeance, while never losing anything in his vocals. The lead guitarist is like Stevie Ray Vaughn reincarnated. Their rhythm guitarist had a fabulous voice and was way more than just filler on stage. He rocked out to every song like he was the front man. And I have to say I loved their drummer. It was like taking Ringo Starr and mating him with Stewart Copeland with delightful results. The songs were great from the lyrics to the arrangements, and their overall on-stage presence was fantastic. I'd highly recommend this band to ANYONE!

  • This is a juicy listening experience. . .
    author: Sarah Wilson

I play this cd all the time because it is such a juicy listen. I love the playful lyrics, rich harmony and moody feel when I hear such songs as "California Son." I can't wait for Tripsitter's next cd. These guys have livened up my listening!

  • Best up and coming band of 2003
    author: Shawn Nakia

This cd mixes and old sound with a new alternative sound. I was blown away by the fact that this band takes us back to when harmonies were an important part of music, while maintaining a a new music sound. I can't wait to hear what comes next!!

  • 31 Flavors of Music
    author: Devin Rambo

Tired of all the vanilla-sounding bands with lead singers desperate to sound like Eddie Vedder? Well, perhaps you should get a handle on these guys. What's not to love about a band whose primary musical influence is best known to your average twentysomething as the subject of lampooning by Barenaked Ladies? This first album by the Las Vegas band Tripsitter fuses catchy rhythms, toe-tapping beats and startlingly novel vocal harmonies to create a joyous pop record that lingers after the CD stops spinning. The record ends strongly with a song that is destined to become the band's signature, a richly-textured valentine which the band has delivered with a wink and a smile by eponymously titling it California Son. Hopefully, this album is the first of many where Tripsitter marries vintage pop sensibilities and contemporary pop moods into their own fresh musical swirl of flavors.

  • "pint-sized symphonies"
    author: Geoff Carter-Las Vegas Weekly

Tripsitter's Jeff and Jon Celentano have pitched their tent between 10cc and Gerry Rafferty, with the High Llamas and Grant Lee Phillips, and for their sake I sure hope someone notices. These times aren't particularly friendly to Tripsitter's brand of 1960's and 70's styled pop, the successes of Ben Folds and John Mayer notwithstanding, and while I can imagine talking Steely Dan with these fellows until Jimmy Carter comes home, I can also imagine a crowd of emo brats talking over their entire set. The music tips the odds in their favor. "Tripsitter" is one of the best-produced records I've ever heard come out of a Vegas band. The songs are layered with smooth harmonies and have backgrounds deeper than the Pacific; these are not so much pop songs as pint-sized symphonies, rich with color and emotion. The Celentano's obviously adore Brian Wilson-they cover "Love and Mercy" as an unlisted bonus track-and they do well by him, perhaps too well. None of this matters, however, when you're deep in "Tripsitter". The record quite literally speaks for itself; it is exactly what it seems to be. If Tripsitter isn't to become a Big Thing, it's only because popular music today is too damn small. Geoff Carter- Las Vegas Weekly

One of the year's surprises is the debut offering by the Las Vegas based trio, Tripsitter. The band's first release, Tripsitter, embraces the listener with cascades of dazzling instumental flourishes, clever lyrics and swelling harmonies bringing to mind The Beach Boys, The Association, and The Zombies with a generous dash of Ben Folds Five and Jellyfish to keep it current. Smart songwriting earmarked by Jeff Celentano's solid vocals and robust piano playing make Tripsitter a real treat. Dial up ''California Son'' and ''Transformation'' for a peek at this band's brand of aural magic. The album's standout track, the drop dead gorgeous ''Last September'', boasts a killer hook that refuses to leave your cranium. A secret hidden track, a faithful cover of Brian Wilson's solo nugget, ''Love and Mercy'' rounds out this promising new release. Info at http://tripsitter.tripod.com Ken Sharp The Rock Report

On their eponymous debut, Tripsitter demonstrate that they are as equally impervious to their locale as they are the times. From the 60’s beach music tone of these eight tracks you would never guess that these guys were Las Vegas residents transplanted from the notoriously hostile streets of Bakersfield, California. Tripsitter are not only a throwback to a time they did not live in, their music evokes a region that (at least physically)they are very far from. But, instead of coming off as irrelevant and misguided, the guys of Tripsitter serve as a breath of fresh air in the howling state of compulsive modernity known as pop music. The track Transformation eases along in the same relaxed, sardonic style that makes Elvis Costello tunes so perfect. A delicate but not fragile melody supports the almost reluctantly bitter lyrics. The song crafting is nostalgic, but not without its own voice. Last September, the next song, manages to add a Beatle-esque sound without losing the overall mellow (possibly toke-filled) day at the beach feel. The most standout track, in my opinion, is California Son. With tight pop structure and detailed lyrics (You step outside/and close you eyes/against a Technicolor/Disney afternoon) one can feel the calmly melancholic land the author summons. This band may never end up on MTV’s TRL or touring with the latest pre-packaged Florida sensation, and that is exactly WHY you should listen to them. Tripsitter brings something to the table forgotten by its more contemporary contemporaries, namely, music made to be heard and enjoyed instead of merely bought.
