The first review to appear of this record called it "a cloudy dream far west of hope". So there you go.

All ten tracks were co-written by Paul Austin (former Willard Grant Conspiracy guy) and Terri Moeller (Walkabouts) and were put to tape by Tucker "Mount Analog" Martine, who's worked on such diverse stuff as Laura Veirs, Modest Mouse, Downpilot, Land of the Loops, Jesse Sykes, "out there" jazz cat Wayne Horvitz and "in there" jazz cat Bill Frisell. Mixing acoustic instruments with ambient field recordings and occasional electronic gristle and wheeze, this staunchly slow-fi record sounds savagely beautiful very late at night or very early in the morning. Listening to it in bright sunlight, however, can be strangely unsatisfying.

    I love this album, this handmade music. I can't speak about it with musical terms. The only thing I can say is that listening to it, I feel like home. Excellent!!

    Nice little album here, a bit on the short side (Reason I gave it only 3 stars), but very nice while it lasts. It just has this...world is collapsing but sit back and sleep a while...kind of feel to it, very atmospheric. Very pleasant surprise.

    I like the Willard Grant and I like the Walkabouts but was not prepared for this. Fans of those bands forewarning, this is its own animal and it is not pop. It is good, it is just odd.

    ten slow songs that radiate with strangeness and sweetness, a masterpiece in subdued ecstasy. as for the blending of acoustic instruments and samples - a charming but slightly weird and fascinating musical world. david lynch should listen to this.

    Any band with a song about driving around listening to Lambchop is okay by me. And a debut record that is not 70 minutes long just because CDs can be. A nice pleased to meet you length. In the interest of full disclosure I got this for free as a journalist, but if I didn't, I honestly would but the thing. And I love free records.

    tape loops and mandolins and cool harmonies and somehow it all fits together. a solid debut from this sextet from Washington, if they come to Wisconsin I'll bet they'll even bring the rain with them. In the meantime this disc is soaked with it. Recommended. (InkJet! #18)
