notes

As a description we thought we'd add a review..........
.....from the Bay Weekend.(New Zealand)

Tracie and her husband and musical partner Brian are, in their own way, perfectionists, settling for nothing less than international quality...

... You can tell from the first moments of the sensual opening take on Luke Hurley's 'Fait Accompli' that this is something different....

..including five new collaborations with their regular lyricist Kieran Martin and three striking songs from Tracie, along with a drop-dead gorgeous reading of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', often to my ears performed a little stridently, but here presented as a soft whispered prayer, mining both the desolation and hopefulness of the song. It is a great reinterpretation.

..it inhabits somewhere between folk music and jazz. These are not often complementary genres, but Tracie's smooth jazzy vocal and deliciously unpredictable phrasing completely transform the folk sounds of the elegant Li'l Princes and epic ode to her G-Grandmother, Catherine, allowing them to sit comfortably next to the more straight-ahead bluesy jazz of Lazy Wind or the Latino-flavoured title track.

The songs themselves are like a long slow seduction. Firstly the rich sound and winsome beauty of the singing overwhelms you, then the subtle intertwining melodies take hold and the heartfelt lyrics gradually slip into your consciousness. Kieran has the knack of finding an unusual turn of phrase, and Tracie's playful sense of humour in her words is undercut with heartfelt moments that just nail you ("I'm with a man, he's no perfect lamb / But he could raise a smile from a scar")...

I highly recommend it.

Tracie De Jong weaves a song together like no one else can. Relaxing is the term that comes to mind. It's just the kind of music you want to relax to after a long work week! Changes your mood... for the better! lucid.s7v7n@gmail.com

The music is full of dynamic layers and tasty guitar. Try Pouring Rain as an example. We've waited a long time for this album and it was well worth it. A must for anyone who enjoys quiet Saturday mornings watching the sun rise. Kudos!!!

  • beautiful vocal deliveries and stunning production

This is one of my favourite albums right now, Tracie has a A voice with the most beautiful tone, lovely jazz tinged numbers, so dreamy and gentle. Supported by her Husband Brian on guitar, and a selection of other musicians came in. Just today I heard Tracie performing live and her live delivery is as stunning as this album...
