notes
From a tiny college town called Frostburg, MD comes 22 year-old singer/songwriter Kenny Tompkins. Raised in Petersburg, WV, Tompkins has been writing and performing music with various bands since aged 15. In 2002 he released his first solo effort, Songs for July, on a friend's micro-label 301 Mafia Records. During 2002-03, he founded the Beatle-esque hard-pop outfit, The Trend, which released its self-titled debut on Washington, D.C. indie Pro-Gravity Records and has quickly risen to regional prominence.
Now in 2004, Kenny Tompkins has issued a brilliant sophomore effort entitled The Beautiful Death of Everything. The album, a conceptual masterpiece, sparkles with bright, enchanting melodies while its sparse arrangements provide a perfect foundation for Tompkins' unique lyrical approach which falls between the dry simplicity of Hank Williams Sr. and the stream-of-consciousness imagery of Neutral Milk Hotel. For the album's release, Tompkins created an opera-like stage show using simple costumes and props to bring its story to life.
He then Completed a summer tour which included stops in
New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. . Now with the Growing support of Indepent Radio and Media, Kenny Tompkins will Continue to tour the USA in support of "The Beautiful Death of Everything" throughout 2004 and 2005.
