I've been the Musician at the Spititual Enrichment Center of Dothan, Alabama since 2001. The "New Thought" messages there appeal to my 12 step recovery program as well as my own innate sensibilities. I've written these songs over the past 10 years, borrowing liberally from the messages at Church, as well as from meetings I attend.
I've been writing songs for over a quarter of a century but never have I felt so proud of my work as I do about these songs.
I've performed primarily as a solo/acoustic act although I've had the pleasure of working with some tremendous musicians in Duo's, Trio's, and full-on Bands.
This music is intended to remind the listener of their personal connection with God (and all mankind) using a little humor as well as some drama in a loving, supportive, non-judgemental way.
These are pretty biographical but I believe the message is universal.
One day when I was feeling really good, I started singing "Amazing Grace" in a really up-tempo way. I was amazed to realize that the song lends itself to a jazz treatment in 5/4 time. You'll hear it on track 3.
After years of praying for it, one wonderful saturday afternoon, while plunking-around on the piano, I started singing the words to "The Lord's Prayer". This was truely a stream-of-consious experience as it just poured out of me and the more I stayed out of it's way, the more it flowed. The result (track 7) is a very singer-friendly version with a melody you can whistle while only using the white keys on the piano.
