notes

“Nights At The Inn” marks Dave Tofani's fourth release on SoloWinds records. The Dave Tofani Quartet has been playing to sold out audiences at the Deer Head Inn for the past year. These performances have inspired Dave and his group to capture this musical magic in the studio.
Dave brings his mastery of tenor saxophone and his flair for arranging to seven beautiful jazz standards and three of his original tunes. During thirty-plus years working as a first-call session player in New York City, Dave has recorded with many of America's most distinguished artists including Natalie Cole, Quincy Jones, Dave Matthews Big Band, Frank Sinatra, George Benson, Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, Steely Dan and Paul Simon. Dave has performed on over 600 jazz, classical and pop albums and over 100 major motion picture soundtracks.
Dave has been recognized by his industry peers numerous times with MVP awards for tenor and soprano saxophone performances. His first album as soloist, "Manhattan Carnival," was nominated for a Grammy Award. His second, "An American Garden," was released in 2002 to rave reviews. "Nights At The Inn" exemplifies the essence of modern tenor playing accompanied by stellar quartet performances.

The incarnation of bebop........Extraordinaire!! Reedman Dave Tofani plus his totally musically animated group fill our sensibilities with his version of musical panache. Dave is the essence of solid intellectual musicianship, & his improvisational skills are adept at superb execution with an apparent inexhaustible capacity for both melodic & harmonic invention........Which he expresses fluently with warmth & joy..........Ergo his innate quality to exude brilliance & eloquence in his music. This is both a player & group capable of washing us with a certain fullness of music, along with an attendant beauty of interpretation & certainly fullness of delivery. How about we keep them for awhile. George W. Carroll The Musicians' Ombudsman

Beautiful melodies, wonderful rhythms, superbly gifted performers, and excellent direction, all wrapped in a pleasant package of originality that will appeal to both traditional and modern jazz fans. Originality is the key word here - Dave Tofani's song writing, arranging and direction of the quartet's performance brings a freshness to jazz audiences that is long overdue.
