Todd Herzog - Artist Profile
a study in alchemy...
al*che*my: the power to transform something base into something precious.
Todd Herzog is an artist who takes the raw material of his life experiences and creates inspirational, emotional pop music that affects his listeners. The music is not intended solely as entertainment but also to promote healing and change in people's lives. His songs invite us to slow down and take a closer look at how the simple choices we make each day affect the shape of our journeys.
The music industry has stood up and taken notice of Herzog's talents. His album was named Best Pop Album of 2002 in the Just Plain Folks Music Awards. He has worked with some of the top songwriters around Los Angeles, including Burt Bacharach, Tonio K., Dave Merenda, Craig Taubman and Harriet Schock. His music and his voice have been featured in television and film in shows like Who Wants To Marry My Dad, The Osbournes, Melrose Place, One Life To Live and The Young & The Restless. He was one of only 13 songwriters chosen to participate in ASCAP's Lester Sill Songwriting Workshop in 2000. Music Connection Magazine reviewed his live performance, saying that "Herzog is honest and moving in his lyrical delivery... this artist takes a positive angle throughout his work." He will be touring as a soloist and with a group throughout the year.
QUOTES & PRAISE FOR "WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE"
"I've listened to your CD a couple of times and I'm really impressed. Great production, vocals, songs! My favorites are the ballads, of course. The melody on THE PERFECT LIE kills me."
--J.D. Martin, co-writer with The Eagles
"My two favorites are "The Perfect Lie" and "Anesthesia", but I think the whole CD is well written, sung, played, and arranged."
--Stephen Schwartz, composer for Godspell, Pippin, Prince of Egypt
"I was at total burnout listening to a certain genre of music I am not that into and we got your CD in the mail and I said "I HAVE to listen to something I have never heard before and popped your's in. I ended up listening to it 3 times, which, in the midst of screening 2400 CD's is no small thing. Kudos."
--Brian Austin Whitney, founder of Just Plain Folks
"Wonderful music. Very consistent in sound and style, flowing comfortably from song to song. You continue to have a fabulous voice, and your vocal control has somehow increased."
--Deke Sharon, founder of The Contemporary A Capella Society of America (CASA)
"Wow. I was humming and singing some of your tunes all day yesterday. Really beautiful, haunting strains of melancholic longing. Instead of listening to Joni Mitchell's BLUE now I can listen to your CD. It is gorgeous stuff AND YOUR VOICE!!! OHMYGOD!!!"
--Amy Potozkin, director of The Berkeley Repertory Theatre

Poignant !
author: Laura T. Lynch of Kweevak.comTodd Herzog’s music can be described as pop/adult contemporary. This ten-track collection is the poignant story of personal loss and pain but evolves into a beautiful assembly of ballads. His songs have strong messages that stress the importance of valuing each day and every moment. His poetic tales are a reminder to let people know you care today. Todd’s lyrics are philosophical, serious and insightful. Herzog sings from the heart with much passion and has a wide vocal range. Todd is supported by skilled musicians and the CD is well produced. Both ‘I’ll Be Waiting’ and ‘Out There’ are smooth like a calming stream with heavy undercurrents of deep reflective struggles and tones. Both tracks showcase Todd’s diverse vocal inflections and command of musical scales. The title track ‘What I Wouldn’t Give’ has a soft steady beat, gentle expressive guitars and heartfelt vocals. This CD is a very personal powerful work, which teaches that loss is a learning experience and that even in our darkest moments there is still light and growth.
This CD is a triumph of faith over fear!!
author: Jennifer LaytonThis is one of those rare CDs that makes me wonder what the heck the artist needs Indie-Music.com for. Todd Herzog should be staggering home from the Grammys with an armload of awards, trying to hail a cab while fighting off major label executives who are waving contracts in his face... ...I fought back tears a few times, but this is not a depressing CD. It’s a triumph of faith over fear. What I Wouldn’t Give is a spiritual gift of music. Something this beautiful makes me believe that faith and hope are worth hanging onto.
