notes
Tito Rodriguez, Jr, born on February 20 in New York, NY, is an Arranger, Composer, Percussionist and Bandleader.
As a child, Tito was surrounded by love, laughter and music. Tito’s father, Tito Rodriguez, the legendary Latin music singer, participated in Tito’s early music education. When Tito was nine years old he began to study the Drums. Throughout Tito’s teens he studied the Guitar, Piano and Vibes. Tito’s father taught him the Timbales and insisted on a formal music education. This was the criterion to play with the Tito Rodriguez Orchestra, which toured worldwide in the 60’s and 70’s. Thus, Tito enrolled in Berklee College of Music in 1975. He graduated with a BA in Music Theory from the University of Miami’s Department of Music.
In his early 20’s Tito organized his first band, the Tito Rodriguez, Jr Orchestra. He produced and recorded Curious? with the participation of Ruben Blades and Jose Alberto on the vocals under the TR Records label, with Tito playing Timbales. This CD has been re-issued by Pimienta Records, distributed by Universal Music Group in 2006 and is considered a Latin “classic” recording. Tito Rodriguez, Jr has arranged, produced and performed with many of the top Latin artists of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s including co-writing the theme song for The Sally Jessy Raphael Show.
