notes

Anyone who has met Australian singer/songwriter Tim Reid or listened to his music knows that he occupies a magical space. Its a space where a distinctive blend of unassuming flair and ambition collide to produce an artist who is at once approachable and intelligent. Tim Reid's music is characterised by an easy openness of lyric that only comes with genuine poise.

In his own way and in his own time, Tim has focussed on becoming a mature songwriter and performer. He released his first EP Catherine in 1998, receiving local and national airplay. It was around this time that Tim began showcasing his talents to live audiences as a solo artist. In late 1999, a song he recorded for ABC Radio, World That's Made For Two (featured on his current album) was play-listed on affiliated ABC AM stations and has maintained a constant level of airplay since then. He has co-written, performed in bands and travelled overseas with his music in the past few years, constantly attracting the attention of those he has come into contact with. Tim's songs have increasingly been captured/recorded by himself in his own makeshift studio, inscribing a certain distinct intimacy to his music. His sound, in this respect, has very much become his own.

Despite his success, Tim's talents have, for the most part, remained a well-kept secret until now. He has just emerged from the studio with his first full-length album. Recorded with the help of Arts Victoria and released by Popboomerang records, Any Given Day features the eclectic talents of Ross Calia, Susie Ahern, Marcus Goodwin and Matty Vehl (Ice Cream Hands), Marty Brown (Art of Fighting) and saxophonist Tim Wilson. Brimming with real human emotion, it explores themes of love, loss and most things in between, weaving familiar sketches, soothing philosophies and fresh ideas into delicate yet potent songs. The result is an album which is both reassuringly catchy and ultimately memorable.

  • "Any Given Day," Tim Reid

I always listen to pandora.com while working, and the system frequently plays new music I've never heard before. Tim Reid popped up while I was listening to a station I'd created to find music with a similar sound to Neil Finn. I loved the Tim Reid song so much that I went hunting online to find out who he was and how I could get my hands on a CD IMMEDIATELY. I love every song on this album. It's one of the few albums I can listen to without feeling annoyed by at least one song. This is a FABULOUS CD, and I'm eager to get my hands on anything else Tim Reid puts out. Anyone who loves Crowded House or Neil Finn will REALLY love Tim Reid. I wish I could give more than five stars! Tawna Fenske Bend, OR USA

Internet Music Radio, "Gone Fishing for Blue Skies", loves the world of Tim Reid.

  • The Beatles, Crowded House and Simon & Garfunkle having lunch together

I bought Any Given Day this week. Was rather excited to stumble upon it I must say. Just brilliant! Loved track 5....it was like The Beatles, Crowded House and Simon & Garfunkle having lunch together. NICE (Not a bad combination you have to admit)! Beautifully crafted even down to the very last outro sounds....just so tasteful!

I played a show in Liverpool and Tim came up after me. I fell in love with his music immediately and brought 2 copies of this CD home with me to Los Angeles. It's been on heavy rotation in my car and around the house for the past 2 weeks.

A great album starting with a gorgeous melody on the first track. I'm a Finn fan (Neil, Tim, Crowded House, Enz) and the similarities to Neil Finn's work are numerous; sweeping melodies, thoughtful lyrics and a really nice structure to the album as a whole.

  • Thoughtful, original lyrics, gorgeous sound, can't stop listening to it.

I have about 50 albums on my new iPod, and this is the album that gets played the most. Daily, in fact. I'm a bit obsessed with it, in a good way. I love the lyrics - this guy is a poet.
